“Okay. Thank you.” I don’t say more, but turn back to what I’m doing. I’m going to get through these two weeks and I’ve decided I’m going to run at that point. I want my life back, and I don’t give a shit what anyone else wants. I’m not sure what the mayor wants or what he can do, but I’ll tell him what happened. No harm in that.
CHAPTER 9
*~* Breaker *~*
Officers have been called to Whack’s office and we all take our seats. Bull has his laptop in front of him. In fact, he has two in front of him and his eyes are on those. It is easy to see he is alert to the room, nonetheless.
Cannon speaks first. “I’ve contacted Para and yeah he’ll have a sit down in his fuckin’ territory. It’ll be a trap, Pres.”
“Not gonna happen. If we are going to go to war, we’ll do it our way and we are not walking into a fuckin’ trap where he can wipe us out. I’ll not put any of your lives in more danger than is necessary. At this point, we watch and wait. Cannon, get Drifter to go to Eastridge and watch what’s happening.” Whack taps his knuckles on the desk. “Get Andy in here. I want his reply to theshop. If he’s in, then Drifter can get his friend out and bring him back here.”
We wait quietly while Cannon grabs Andy. It only takes a few minutes for them both to enter the office. Andy looks a little nervous but holds his head up when he looks at Pres.
“Okay, I need your answer, Andy. Are you in with the working prospect or not?” Whack is in Pres mode and he’s not messing around.
“Yes. I spoke with Molly, and what she said to me made sense. She told me I would gain a family, and after being on my own for a long time I think I’d like to be part of something, and feel I belong. Molly said when she leaves here she will be alone again, and to not do that to myself as we both know what it’s like to have nobody watching your back. So, yes, I’m in. I spoke with Thorn and he’s in. But he told me he’ll have trouble getting away as the Cobras are patrolling every road in and out of the town.” Andy fiddles a little but keeps his head up.
“Okay, you speak and work with Pens. He’ll get this set up, contracts drawn and everything that’s needed. Dismissed.” Whack watches as Andy leaves the room, then smirks. “He’ll do. He’s going to get braver as he gets to know us. I don’t like the fact Molly will be alone when she leaves here. I’m going to think about that.”
Yeah, I’m not sure I like that either. I reckon her stepsister either needs incarcerated or buried. Either works for me as long as she’s nowhere near Molly from now onwards.
Bull gains everyone’s attention. “I’ve a pattern building from your hog, Breaker. It’s traveling from their clubhouse through town, into Eastridge and to the edge of Springfield. Then it travels back, stopping now and again at a takeout or bar.”
“Fucker, I’m going to put him in the ground when I catch him. If my girl has a scratch on her, I’ll make his death slow,” I snarl as I think about the hog I worked so hard to afford. My old hog is great and I’m using it, but my stolen one is my pride and joy. Or was!
After the meeting, we make our way with Molly to the meeting with Mayor Whitethorn. We are going to his home, which surprised me as I expected we’d go to Town Hall.
We had taken the SUV as none of us wanted Molly on the back of our bikes, means too much and we don’t want saddled with an old lady just because we went to a meeting with the mayor.
Walking into an elegant dining room, we take a seat and watch as Mrs. Whitethorn places a tray of drinks on the table. I grin to myself when she lays a plate of Oreos for us to have. None of us take one, but we look at the mayor to see what he has to say.
“So, Mayor, what is this meeting about?” Whack asks.
“I have heard from my wife that Molly has been mistreated by the hospital. I need to get some information from you Molly if that is okay?” Mayor Whitethorn addresses Molly gently, and I can see he is genuinely interested in what is going on.
Molly takes a deep breath, then begins. “Mr. Whitethorn, I was given the job at the hospital on the understanding that I am not late, do not miss my shifts and do my job well. I have done all of that. But, I was kidnapped by a disgusting motorcycle club. The Broken Cobras MC took me to their clubhouse, and I was tied up and dumped in the basement. How was I supposed to turn up for my shift, Mr. Mayor?“
“Well, it would have been difficult and your HR Manager didn’t listen to any of your explanations?”
“No, she wasn’t interested. All she wanted was for me to leave. I bet she has someone lined up for my job, maybe a sister, cousin, or friend. Sorry, that wasn’t nice.” Molly cringes at her own comment, but I’m struggling not to laugh. Whack is struggling too, and Cannon doesn’t bother hiding the fact as he has a shit-eating grin on his face.
Mrs. Whitethorn walks over to Molly from where she had been sitting next to her husband. “No need to apologize. I’m sure I’d feel the same. If that is the case she’ll be in hot water.”
“Why were you kidnapped, Molly?” The mayor is struggling I think to understand what actually happened.
“My stepsister is a menace. She gets into trouble and then I’ve always been expected to get her out of her messes. But when I reached twenty-one I told her she was on her own. I was done cleaning up after her. I moved towns, but she found me a few months later. I moved again, and again she found me. So, I moved again. During the last time I moved, she got involved with one of the men of the Cobras MC and apparently she stole money from them. She told them I would pay the debt. I don’t even know how much that is, but I’m not paying anything. With all the moving, I have no savings left. Now, I don’t even have a job.” Throughout the tirade, Molly has gotten more and more worked up and I can see she’s about ready to burst into tears. I reach out and take her hand in mine, giving it a light squeeze.
“Dear, dear, that is a tale. Your stepsister needs a reality check. Where is she now?” Mrs. Whitethorn asks.
I quickly respond, saving Molly from having to answer at the moment. “We have not been able to catch up with her as yet. She is coming to town occasionally. We also heard she has a black van she’s living out of, but that is not confirmed.”
“What happened with the placards?” Mrs. Whitethorn asks Molly.
Molly rolls her eyes. “These two…” pointing at Whack and Cannon, “came and stopped our demonstration. It was a good one, and we were peaceful about it. Just because the hospital didn’t like it doesn’t make us look bad. We have every right to protest.”
The mayor looks at Molly, then his wife who we can all see is all-in with Molly’s case. He taps his fingers on the table then looks at Whack. “As President of the club I expect you will deal with the matter of the young lady. You deal with her, and I will deal with the hospital. Molly, if I can’t get you reinstated I will get you compensation for the way you were finished, and loss of pay.”
In the SUV, I grin when Cannon states. “Well, Molly, I think you have the mayor's wife in your pocket. She’ll be a good one to keep friendly with, just in case we need her help in the future.”
