“I wish yo ass would’ve said no,” Kalil quipped as they all approached the house.

“Kalil, I be trying to be nice, but don’t try me.”

“Chill out, I’m just fucking with you. Pretend like you don’t love me just because Kas right here.”

The group entered Kas’ house, and his cousins immediately made themselves comfortable. Kas didn’t mind because like Kalil said, it was the norm. If he wasn’t at Onyx’s house or kicking it with Layla, he was at his own crib with either Yanna, or Kalil and Quan. Yanna gave them a hard time, the same as she did Kas, but truly enjoyed their company. Kalil went to Kas’ Apple home system and connected it to his phone to play music. Quan made his way to the kitchen to grab shot glasses because all they did was kick shit, drink, and smoke when together. Most nights they’d get so rowdy Layla would come over and curse them out, ending their fun for the night. It only took a few minutes before they were loud as hell, passing around shotsand blunts like they were celebrating something. An hour or so into their revelry, Yanna was dancing in front of Kas while he laid back on the couch eyeing her intently. They were about to completely forget they weren’t alone in the room before the sound of the front door closing caught their attention.

Onyx came waltzing into the living room shirtless, in a pair of gray joggers, socks, and house shoes. Clutched in his hands were two file folders.

“Nyx!” Kalil shouted when Onyx was in their view.

“Aye, y’all loud as fuck over here. I could hear y’all all the way at my house.”

“So you came over here to fuss at us?” Yanna questioned with a giggle.

“Nah, I don’t have the energy for all that.”

“Why? What you andBabywas over there doing?”

“Aye, Quan, don’t worry about what me and mine was doing. And her name is Troi, nigga I ain’t gone tell you that shit again.”

“Tender ass nigga.” Quan scoffed.

“Anyway, I actually came over here to drop these off for you, Yanna.”

Yanna accepted the envelopes from Onyx’s hand and lazily sifted through them. “What is all this?”

“The top folder has a bunch of new hire paperwork I need you to fill out, sign, and have back to me by tomorrow. The other folder has information, instructions, and checklists for the things I need done for WCMG’s upcoming mixer.”

“Damn, I haven’t even started the job yet and you’re already hounding me,” Yanna murmured.

“I don’t have to hound you at all. Give me my shit back and I can find somebody else to do it.”

“I was just joking, Nyx, damn.”

“Keep them jokes to yo self next time,” Onyx retorted, grabbing the blunt as Kalil attempted to pass it to Yanna. Hetook a few pulls before passing it to her and heading toward the door. “Oh yea, Kalil and Quan… get ready to carry y’all asses up the road. It’s quiet time around these parts.” He called behind him before exiting the house.

“Who the fuck do Nyx be thinking he is?” Quan questioned.

“Go outside and ask him.”

“Nah, I’m good.”

“That’s what I thought.” Kas laughed.

“I’ll ask him. Coming in here at this time of night, handing me work papers just because he can. Let me go in here and see what all is in these envelopes,” Yanna complained, stumbling her way to the kitchen with Kas’ eyes glued to her the entire time.

“Kas, you really trying to follow in Onyx’s footsteps, huh?”

“How you mean?”

“Yanna. When y’all first met, you swore you won’t catching feelings and all that. Now you on her,” Kalil observed.

“On her hard too. I can’t even lie, I ain’t never felt like this about no female. Most people probably think she difficult, and don’t get me wrong, she is. But she mine to deal with, and I know how to handle Yanna.”

“Aww, you love her and shit,” Kalil joked.

“Hell yea, I ain’t ashamed to admit it either.”
