“Don’t touch me.”
More plates were made, and they enjoyed their meal together, discussing Troi and Onyx’s upcoming wedding. They’d held it off while Onyx got the label up and running, but the big date was steadily approaching. Place settings and flowers were discussed for the duration of their meal before Onyx announced he needed to go home and get dressed.
“Kas, go ahead and get ready so you can come with me to the label.”
“What? I wasn’t planning on going to the label today. I got to keep an eye on Yanna.”
“No, the hell you don’t. Besides, my mumma been blowing my phone up all morning. I’m going to run over there and see what she wants.”
“And where else you going?”
“I’ll probably just go---”
“Hell nah,” Onyx interrupted Yanna’s response. “Jaiyanna, don’t you answer that question. Kas, why the hell you clocking her every move?”
“Because she sneaky as hell, that’s why.”
“Sneaky or not, she ain’t yo child. She already told you she going to check in on her mumma and that’s good enough.”
“Whatever, Nyx.”
“Me and Kian gone get this stuff cleaned up before Vee’s people comes to collect her dishes.”
“Baby, you not gone come to the label with me?”
“Aww, you so clingy baby, but no.”
Onyx shook his head, knowing his fiancée was right about him. He wanted nothing more than to live in her skin 24/7.
“Yanna boo,” Kas called.
“Yes, Kasra?”
“Bring yo’ ass right back here when you leave yo mumma crib.”
“Nigga, take yo ass on somewhere, you don’t run her.”
“Ight, Nyx,” Kas replied, but as soon as Onyx turned his back, he mouthed to Yanna that she’d better return to his house when she was done at her mother’s. Yanna replied by giving him the middle finger before they dispersed, all preparing for their day.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
Pleasantries and head nods were exchanged between Onyx, Kas, and random workers of WCMG as the pair made their way throughout the headquarters. Looking around, Kas couldn’t stop the feeling of pride spreading throughout his body. His brother had gone from being raised in the slums to being a multi-platinum singer. He’d built WCMG from the ground up, and Kas couldn’t wait to see the heights his brother would take the company to. The brothers stepped onto the elevator, and Kas pressed the button to take them to the fifth floor. He released a deep preparatory breath, shaking his head in the process.
“Hell wrong with you?” Onyx inquired.
“How long you plan on feeling this Zahra chick out?”
“I mean, I want to give her a fair chance.”
“How fair is too fair though, Nyx? I understand she’s marketable and all that, but that bitch don’t have even a little bit of talent.”
“She was one of the first people to reach out to the label. Plus, she’s from VA, close to the tri-cities so I want to make sure we really try to develop her before deciding she’s not gone work.”
“Ain’t that much developing in the world. She can’t sing for shit, and it seems like the more I try to coach her, the worse she gets.”
“That’s ‘cause her ass be too busy smiling in yo face. Don’t think I missed that shit.”
“Shit, it wasn’t nothing for me to hide. I don’t be smiling back.”
