It just tickled a part of his gut, and he would be alerted. After getting off of the phone with Greyson Croft the day before, he was bothered by something.
Deep down, he knew that Sasha Harper was scared stupid to lie to him. In fact, he had her locked around his pinkie, willing to do whatever he wanted.
It was the only way she could keep the life she had now, and she knew it. Desperation made people do just about anything.
Like sleep with Greyson Croft for information, and while he was hellbent on no agents getting tangled up, he’d allow that because her sole job was to watch—not fall in love with a Fed.
Because she wanted to keep her life as it was, he didn’t think she’d make up a story about Ethan and Gene being a couple, only for it to be false.
Something was definitely up with those two.
The day they told him about Javier Hughes, and the DVD of Ethan‘pretending’to grind on his partner, and give him head…
Something had set off that alarm in his brain, telling him what they said was off.
He knew when something was fake and real, and there was no doubt in his mind that Ethan and Gene were a couple.
And he had rules against that.
It wasn’t about them being gay. He could give two shits who people slept with, as long as they wereNOTworking together as a team.
It was dangerous.
It was stupid.
It costs lives.
It also caused a myriad of bullshit down the line when there was a messy breakup. While he was grateful that Gene was some snake charmer, and Blackhawk had calmed down, it was still against the rules.
And they knew that.
Yeah, he tolerated Elizabeth’s dalliance with her geeky ME, but she was effective in the field. She was also his friend and family.
So he let it slide, mostly because of that friendship. If it were up to him, he’d separate them so fast, heads would spin. His gut told him that the ME wouldn’t be able to not fuck this up with her, and at some point, he’d piss her off.
Again, one of his superpowers was just being able to know when there were bumps in the road.
He’d bet his career on it.
But the man had saved him in France, and he owed him a chance. As for Elizabeth, she’d not screwed up, getting herself hurt because she was distracted, so he let her keep going.
On top of that, she also had the common senseNOTto get caught.
Gene and Ethan…not so much.
They were terrible liars, clearly. At least put up a fight when the FBI said they were going to have to share an apartment.
Pretend to be outraged.
Lie and say that one of them was paying for an apartment because working with the other was more than enough time spent together.
What amused and horrified him was that Gene Cantrell worked vice before being stuck with Blackhawk, andMOSTof his jobs had been undercover.
Someone either sucked at it, or didn’t care if he got caught.
Well, the dogs were being called out on the two men, and he was the dogs in this scenario.
What was a real bummer for Gabe was that he had plans for Ethan Blackhawk.
