Gene shared.
“When we found the body, Lucas ID’d him by a tattoo on his leg. So I’m sure Gabe contacted Ben, and he got the positive ID. He’s proactive when it’s one of his agents.”
Oh, they were well aware.
“I’m glad it was handled. Jarod had family back in the States, and they should know,” said Noe.
On that, they all agreed.
When Miguel came back in, he didn’t have a laptop in his hands, and Gene didn’t like that.
Not.
At.
All.
“Sorry, but it’s not here. He must have taken it home with him Friday when he left for work. He was off duty this weekend. This was Lucas’ weekend on,” he stated.
Well, shit.
That wasn’t great. Agents who did investigations on homicides usually made notes that didn’t end up in the report. They knew Jarod had submitted one, but his notes…
They would have the good shit.
Miguel handed something to Gene.
“I do have the note he left me. It was in my files, and it was definitely Wednesday. I scribbled the lunch order on the back for us.”
He handed that to Gene, and he knew what they needed to do at some point. That laptop might be at the man’s home.
It was going to be a trip there.
“Did Agent Shand live alone? Was he married?” he asked, knowing they needed to root around in the man’s home—once they got positive ID from the ME.
Noe shook his head.
“No, he was single. He spent a lot of time interviewing in bars and clubs, and he said that the market was oversaturatedwith nightmares waiting to happen. If you ask me, he played for the same team, if you know what I mean.”
Oh, they did.
Two men out of the three also‘played’for the same team, and together. That told him that Jarod was very lowkey about his personal life.
If they found something at the man’s home, telling them about a significant other, that was also going to be on the interview list.
If not, they were once more hitting a wall. Someone had to know what he was handling.
They hoped.
“We’re going to need his address, and his personnel records,” Greyson asked. “The agents will check his home for the FBI laptop, and Gene and Ethan will make sure we focus on getting the man justice.”
That worked for them.
When they heard last night about Jarod, they were shocked as shit.
Jarod was easygoing. Everyone in the office was, as a matter of fact. No one disliked the man because they believed it just wasn’t possible.
He was a good dude.
