“No. No!”
Her squeals, however pleasurable to hear, needed to cease.
I pulled her into an open office door, instantly covering her mouth with my hand. With her soft ass pressed against my cock, there was no chance of ignoring the attraction I felt. Having her in my arms forced me to realize how fragile and vulnerable she was. Everything about her was intoxicating, including the scent of fear mixed with her subtle perfume.
I’d never been the kind of man to force myself on a woman. Doing so hadn’t been necessary, but right now, I could easily lose myself in the beautiful woman without a single regret. Her soft moan was an admittance she felt the lust I had for her.
If she only knew what I was thinking.
It took every ounce of control to keep from tasting her, if only for a few seconds. Sadly, any distraction could mean our death.
“You need to listen to me. There is a gunman, likely more than one who came here today with the full intention of killing me. I assure you that you won’t be left as a witness. Do you understand? Nod if you do.”
Thankfully, she did, but I could tell by the hatred in her eyes she wasn’t going to be very cooperative.
“I also need you to behave and not try and draw attention. Can you be a good girl for me?” The fear remained, but her determination to escape had yet to fade. We were running out of time. “Answer me.” I released my hold on her mouth long enough for her to provide a verbal answer.
“Yes.” Said between clenched teeth.
“Excellent. I’m going to hold you to that. If you fail me, there will be consequences. Now, I know there’s a back entrance to this building leading to a loading dock. You’re going to take me there. Nod if you understand.”
She did, her hatred only increasing. God, I did so love a feisty woman, but now wasn’t the time.
“Which way, my angel?”
With her arm shaking, she pointed toward a nondescript door. Perhaps a noted safety zone for employees in case something like this ever occurred. Holding her tightly against me, I peered out, scanning the hallway. At this point, we were alone. “Go. Go. Go.”
She followed my instructions, bolting across the hallway to the door. We both glanced in the direction from which we’d come. As soon as she placed her hand on the knob, so did I and the shot of electricity was dazzling. More so than any time I could remember touching a woman.
Her intake of breath was sharp, the heat coming from her body close to being explosive. However, my offhanded desires would need to wait. We bolted down the stairs. I remained behind her, checking every few seconds to ensure we weren’t being followed. Then suddenly, the door opened and boots were thumping down the concrete stairs at a fast rate.
“We need to get going,” I whispered in her ear. I only hoped that my men were in position, holding the space as determined prior to be entering the courthouse. I’d fully expected to get the hell out of here today, but not like this.
If someone was following, they were gaining. We hit the outside door seconds later, the bright sun blinding me from seeing anything.
Pop! Pop!
The sound was far too close.
Suddenly, the screech of tires.
The lovely Catherine tried to escape as she’d done before. “I did what you asked. Let me go, you bastard.”
I yanked her closer to the street, shielding my eyes until I was able to see the approaching SUV driven by Jarvis. “We’re not having this argument,” I told her, moving forward. A sudden sound caught my attention. The gunman had both hands wrapped around his weapon with a clear shot. Well, shit. I had no choice.
Turning slightly, I shielded her body once again and fired off a single shot. The fucker went down hard. He would live. Maybe.
“Get in,” I snarled as I threw open the door.
While there had been four of my men inside the courthouse prowling the halls, Jarvis had remained behind. With myfather’s murder, we’d beefed up security, taking additional precautions. Now I was glad I’d insisted.
“I’m not going with you,” she snarled, but not fighting me with everything she had.
“Yes, you are.” I picked her up and stuffed her inside, taking one last look before crawling in behind her and slamming the door.
“You okay, boss?” Jarvis asked, searching the rearview mirror.
“I will be. Get us out of here.”
