“Yeah, rare night off,” Killian adds as his eyes roam the room, settling on a curvy redhead near the bar. She glances away shyly after he smiles at her.
“We’ve got to make the most of it.” Jenson’s gaze follows Killian’s, meeting the redhead’s friend. The blonde isn’t as shy and holds Jenson’s gaze for a beat with a flirty smile.
“Fuck yeah, we’re in there.” He smirks at Killian.
“What about the photos in the press today? The ones of Sinclair with Brad Garrett-Charles.” I spit out his name before the inside of my mouth turns sour with it.
Killian and Jenson exchange a look.
“I’ll get us some more beers,” Jenson says, heading over to the bar. He leans on it cockily and starts chatting to the blonde and redhead after he orders. Their gazes keep bouncing over to our table and within seconds he has them both giggling.
“You think it’s the baby face? They want to mother him?”
I shake my head as I answer Killian. “It’s his terrible jokes.”
“At least Killian’s interesting, and Jenson’s fun.”Sinclair’s words from when she was told I’d be her bodyguard echo in my head.
“They really are shit. But somehow he pulls them off.” Killian looks away from where the girls are giggling again at something Jenson’s said.
“The photos?” I say, fixing him with a look.
He holds his hands out. “It’s just the press being the press. They’re always speculating over Sinclair’s love life, you know that.”
I grind my teeth. I do know that. They’ve been running stories about Sinclair and any man she’s spotted with for as long as I can remember. Only this time it was Brad Garrett-Charles when she met him for coffee. A coffee she invited me to join them for, knowing full well I’d decline. I sat at a nearby table instead, watching the slimy fucker abuse every opportunity he could to touch her hand on top of the table.
“I still want you to look into it. It could have been a tip-off, like before.”
Killian leans back in his chair, exhaling. He knows what I’m referring to. Sinclair went shopping with Halliday a couple of months ago. They were buying baby gifts for a friend of Halliday’s, but the press went wild, ambushing them. Both of them ended up needing to go to hospital to get checked over. Thank fuck they were both fine.
The press still ran stories insinuating Sinclair was hiding her own pregnancy. The gossip sites were stuffed with articles, all speculating over who the father could be until it all died down.Assholes.
“Sure, I’ll take a look.”
I nod at Killian, the tension in my neck loosening a fraction.
“You need me to do anything else?”
Julian flashes into my mind. I know who he is now. But why Sinclair didn’t want me to know she was meeting a lawyer, I’m still in the dark about. Maybe she really is fucking him.
“No. I can handle the rest.”
Killian leans over the table, eyeing me like he’s unsure whether moving closer is a wise move or not.
“What?” I ask.
“Just… You and Sinclair. You know, the way you are together.”
I stare at him.
“If I can see it, then it’s only a matter of time until Sterling will as well. I’m just saying.”
“What the fuck are you talking about? I’m her bodyguard. It’s my job to be with her all the time.”
He sits back, holding his palms up. “That’s not what I meant. You know what? Forget I said anything. You know what you’re doing.”
Three beer bottles are hastily slammed into the middle of our table.
“Jessica and Liana want to meet you.” Jenson gives us a shit-eating grin.
