Something tight uncurls in my chest at the way he says it, so soft and sincere, and when he leans down to place a kiss against my temple, my fingers dig into his arm to stop me from jumping him again.
I’m still in a daze when Kane holds out the tablet I’d forgotten about. I slowly take it, then instantly narrow my gaze on Ezekial. “Since when were there cameras in the atrium?”
He blanches, then starts to speak too quickly. “There have always been cameras, I’ve just been… checking them for Amon and Kacey’s safety.”
Sai laughs in the background as I step closer to the huge, powerful Lord who can’t quite hold my gaze. “Are you telling me the truth, my Lord?”
“I…” Ezekial swallows, then sighs. “I did use them for monitoring, but also so I could… watch you.” He cringes, fully aware of how terrible that sounds.
But instead of outrage, I find myself oddly touched. It’s kind of… sweet.
I nod slowly. “Anything else you’ve been keeping? Because now would be a great time to—”
“We own this building,” he blurts.
Julien flits beside Ezekial, folding his arms. “Just so you’re fully aware, he made that purchase without our knowledge.”
Ezekial glares at Julien.
“When?” I frown.
Sai flits to my other side. “About the same time you started staying with Kace.” He grins shamelessly.
“Wow.”
“For your safety,” Ezekial rushes out.
Kane slips his arms back around my waist from behind, lips brushing my ear. “I warned you. We’re possessive.”
I roll my eyes, but the smile tugging at my lips betrays me. “Anything else anyone wants to add?” I try to sound stern, but my voice has gone a little too soft.
“I’ve got three and a half nearly-dead guards in the Pit for you,” Sai offers casually.
I whip around to face him, eyes wide. “Why?”
“They’re the only ones left, from the cell…” He doesn’t need to say more. The shadows stir, emphasising everyone’s acknowledgment. “We kept them alive for you.”
“Forme?”
He steps closer, adding a little shrug. “In case you wanted some revenge.”
Why is this so morbidly sweet? I should be horrified, but instead I’m fighting another smile.
Revenge fuels these men, it’s been their lifeblood, and they thought I might want that too. But I don’t feel like I need it. Not when I have them.
“Thank you, but I’m fine with you… dealing with them.”
Sai grins manically, markings bright. “Anything for you, Red. I’ll deal with them soon, after tonight.”
That pulls me back to the present, to the fact I’ve agreed to spend the whole night at the house with them.
“If I’m going to be with you guys all night again, I think I should go check on Kacey, seeing as the last time I saw her, I was being kidnapped.”
My gaze sweeps to the very smug Lord who doesn’t look at all guilty for said kidnapping.
“Kacey is next door with her bonded, she’s fine,” he says, like that dismisses the conversation.
“I still want to go see her. I’d like to check in on Raelynn too.”
