“Because what, Sye?” I murmur, but he doesn’t say anything. He only steps back and looks at me.

“Nothing, just… we… I m-mean I love you so much and we… I mean I… j-just want to be with you forever.”

“Aww, baby,” I smile, and he melts.

“And I will be with you forever as long as you act right.” I kiss him. “Now behave like a good boy and wait on mama, okay?”

“Okay,” he sighs and steps back, finally letting me get to the elevator where I blow him a million and one kisses, but as the glass door shuts, I see him shove his hair to the back, frustrated before he clenches his jaw.

I want to step out and comfort him, but I don’t want to be late since I won’t get to see Connie for two weeks. Instead, I pull out my phone and text him.

My Sweet Melanie : Don’t be sad. I’m going to do some shopping with the money you gave me yesterday, so I’ll see you at 5 and I promise to make it up to you okay?

Sye : Okay my love have fun

I throw my head back laughing, stepping out of the elevator when it opens up to the lobby, and go straight outside, where I see my car is waiting for me.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Webb,” the doorman greets me, and I nod, waving.

“Hello, Charlie. How are the wife and kids?” I ask before going up the car where the driver is waiting with the door open.

“They are doing wonderful, thank you for asking.”

“No problem, I brought something for each of them, so make sure you call up to the penthouse before you leave today, okay?”

“Aww, you didn’t have to do that.”

“I didn’t but I wanted to, so don’t forget.”

“I won’t. Thank you, and have a nice evening.”

“You’re welcome, and I will.” I smile, step into the car, let the driver close the door, and text Connie.

Mel: Sorry I’m running I’m late. I’ll be right there.

Connie: No worries I’m running late my damn self. See you in a bit.

Once the driver gets in, I see him check the GPS and drive off into traffic, but thankfully, it doesn’t take too long to get theresince we chose a location midway between the airport and my home.

After about a fifteen-minute drive, he pulls up and steps out, opening the car door for me, and I step out, thanking him before going inside, knowing he’ll be waiting for me until I’m done.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Webb, your party has already arrived and been seated. Please follow me.” The waiter bows graciously as soon as he sees me, guiding me to the back where I reserved a seat for Connie and I last week in advance.

When I spot her, I beam from ear to ear, and she must see me coming out of the corner of her eye because she turns to me and grins, standing up and coming over.

“Mel!” Connie pulls me into a tight hug. “Girl, you look AMAZING!” she exclaims, making my cheeks grow hot.

“Aww, thanks, pooh. You look amazing, too.”

“Yeah, but bitch, you the one that’s glowing.” She grins, taking my hand as we both go back to our private booth, where we take a seat.

“Friend, good dick and a healthy relationship will do that to you.” I raise a brow, grinning from ear to ear, and she tilts her head to the side like the ‘I was waiting for you at the doe’ meme.”

“Hello, that’s what I’m trying to get while I’m in Russia.” She nods, and I smirk, happy to catch up with her.

I met Constance when we used to work at the same company. She quit when she was ready to branch out and move up in her career path, and I quit at the same time she did, when I moved in with Sye, and he said he wanted to support me while I set up my own business.

I felt nervous about it, but when I talked to Connie about it, she was like, “Hell yeah, jump on it. Don’t miss the opportunity to let your man support you, just make sure you have your solo savings and solo accounts in case you have to get the fuck gone.”
