The rest of our drive was through thick forests and smalltowns. It was picturesque and quaint. I loved fall, the leaves were too pretty. It was hard not to pay attention to the demon beside me, his large warm hand resting against my thigh. His touch was lighting me on fire. It was hard not to wiggle and move, craving his touch somewhere else on me. The rest of the one hour drive was torture, his earthy and musky scent permeating the air. It was intoxicating and mouth watering, my panties damp and my body desperate.
We were sitting in peaceful silence, the music playing in the background as the landscape blurred by us, heading back to Hartford. I had to distract myself before I asked him to stick his hand in my pants, asking him something that has been on my mind instead. “If you use glamour, why didn’t it work on me? Why can’t I see your cloaked persona?” I blurted out, breaking the silence in the truck. He sat there for a moment, neither of us speaking, I was starting to get antsy from the silence and was about to apologize when he finally spoke up.
“You know, those are really good questions. I have been trying to figure that out myself. I don’t know why you see through my glamour and why it doesn’t work on you.” Another pause from him, I could tell he was thinking and wanted to say more. “This is a first for me and all new territory. Can’t say I am upset, it did make things interesting when we first met,” he chuckles. He rubs my thigh in gentle strokes while he looks forward at the road. “I’m pretty happy with the way things went and I wouldn’t change a thing,” he squeezes my leg.
The first thought in my head was, it would be nice to talk to my mom right now; maybe she knew something or would be able to help me figure this out. A pang of sadness rips through me knowing I never can. Although didn’t she havea whole bunch of documents, books, and journals that are now in my possession that she kept from our family history? I remember as a girl and teenager, she was very interested in our family history, as well as paranormal and non-human beings.
“What do you look like to everyone else when you wear your glamour?”
He hums in thought. “Well, my body doesn’t change size or anything. My tail and horns are hidden. The only things that change are my skin tone and hair color. My hair turns to a platinum blonde color and my skin tone changes to a warm ivory I believe they call it.”
Ahh this makes sense now why a lot of people today were gawking at him. He’s still a towering, muscular hottie. Sounds like the typical boy-next-door look. I snicker to myself. “Did you choose those characteristics? How does that work with glamours?”
He shakes his head. “That’s not how these types of spells work. There is magic like that, but it’s more specific and costly. I think the magic is somehow able to read your DNA and then match itself to the person. If you want to know how it’s able to change my characteristics, that I don’t know since I don’t use magic.” Huh, interesting. There was way too much of this world that was hidden from humans and unknown to us. I sat there for a moment contemplating.
“Does Thea know about supernaturals or magic? Does she know about you?” I wondered.
He nods his head. “She does, but if you want to know more about that, I would ask her personally. She would be happy to share about what she knows I’m sure.”
“Good to know, I’m sure I will.” I gave him a smile. I lookout the window and see that we are heading back into town. Our date is nearly over, but I really don’t want it to be. I had a lot much fun today. Too bad I didn’t have my own apartment to invite him over, and I was too much of a chicken to ask if I could go over to his place.
He drops me back off after the sun has set. Before he goes, he gives me a kiss that takes my breath away. It’s simple yet demanding and filled with passion and longing. He moves my head with expert precision, placing me where he needs me, deepening the kiss. His lips are warm and soft against mine. He finally pulls away, breaking the spell he had me under.
“Good night Blair. This was one of the best days I have had in a really long time. Thank you for sharing it with me.” A small, gentle smile on his face, his eyes filled with longing and hope.
“Good night Asmodeus. I’ll see you tomorrow for brunch?”
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” He leans in to give me one more peck before he turns around and bounds down the stairs to his truck. I watched him pull away before I started to close the door. Right before the door was shut, I heard a howl in the distance, causing goosebumps to spread across my arms and a chill to run up my spine.

I woke up from a deep sleep feeling a bit groggy. The sun was out, but the windows were foggy from the cool autumn air. I trudged my way to the bathroom and turned on the shower, the hot water should warm me up nicely. I strip off my clothes, throwing them in the laundry hamper sitting bythe sink. I looked at myself in the mirror and gasped. There were scratches and bruises all over my arms! I looked down at the rest of my body and found more on my legs. What in the world happened? Looks like I woke up from a fight and I wasn’t the victor.
My first assumption was that I had left the door to my bedroom open last night, and maybe the cats got in while I was asleep. But that didn’t make sense. Thea’s cats adored me and were the sweetest creatures ever. I also went and poked my head out of the bathroom and saw that the bedroom door was closed and locked. A chill went up my spine, making me feel the same way I did last night when I heard that howl outside.
My hands were shaking when I stepped into the hot water, hoping that the water would calm down my nerves. I spent longer than normal in the shower, allowing the hot water to soothe me. Some of the scrapes burned from the water and soap, but I mustered through it, wanting my body clean from whatever had hurt me. I got out of the shower and got ready for the day. I really hope I can get a hug from Asmodeus when he gets here. I really need one. I was scared and wasn’t sure what was going on.
Since it was still mild weather, I decided to put on something cute. I chose a slim-fitting red maxi skirt and a short-sleeved black t-shirt, bringing a cardigan downstairs with me just in case I got cold. We decided to see each other again today, but this time he was coming over for brunch. I was planning on making him food here at Thea’s house, a feast with bacon, French toast, eggs, fruit, and tea. Thea let me use her special French toast recipe, which was the best French toast I have ever had.

Chapter 12- Asmodeus
Even though we went on one of the most perfect dates yesterday, I couldn’t stand not to see her again. Last night when I dropped her off, I had agreed to come over to Thea’s house for some brunch today.
I was going to head over at around eleven in the morning, which gave me plenty of time to get ready. I decided on some nice khaki pants and a dark green Henley shirt. I grabbed my wallet, phone, and keys, heading out to my truck. It took me about 25 minutes to get there.
I rang the doorbell, greeting her when she opened the door for me. “Good morning, Blair, I missed you. You look beautiful today,” I murmured as I bent down to give her a brief kiss. As we walked to the kitchen together, I could smell the stress emanating from her; her scent had soured. My instincts were urging me to comfort our mate. I pulled her close to me, wrapping my arms around her back. I searched her face. “What’s wrong?” I murmur.
She worries her lip between her teeth, she shakes her head, a weak smile plastered on. “Nothing to worry about. Notsure how to describe it, if I could,” her voice shakes. I rub soothing circles on her back. I held her at arm’s length away from me so I could scan her for myself. My blood went cold when I noticed her arms.
I saw the bruises and scratches all over her, my concern for her amped up. Even though I could still smell her sweet scent, it was coated by the stench of death, which didn’t make sense. Although now that I think about it, it’s the same scent I have been getting traces of lately around the bakery and sometimes around town. Something was going on, and I was not going to allow her to get hurt, especially since she wasmine.
“What happened?” I rasped, trying to keep my feelings and instincts in check.
“That’s the thing, I don’t know. I woke up with these bruises and scratches all over me,” she whispers. I held her tighter against me, needing to protect and comfort her. I was seething inside, bubbling with rage. It must have been suffocating because Thea suddenly comes into the kitchen.
“Good morning Asmodeus, good morning Blair,” acknowledging us both as I catch a knowing look in her eye.
