“Did you see me come here with a woman?” I ask.

“Yeah.” She eyes Layla up over my shoulder. “But you’re not with her now, and I don’t see a property cut or a ring. I’ve been thinking about you for a while. It could be hot?” she adds with a smile, reaching out to touch my arm. I remove her hand. “I thought maybe you were done with her—or you can bring her, that’s cool too.”

I wouldn’t give this woman a second glance, but I don’t even get the chance to tell her that myself because Layla is already stalking toward us with Kai scrambling to catch up. I have to admit, I find it highly amusing to see the look that she has in her eyes right now, one that I haven’t seen before.

Jealousy.

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

Layla

The funny thing about pretending … if you pretend long enough, you forget why you were pretending in the first place.

I hate that he’s right. But what I hate even more is that I immediately recognize the woman at the bar hitting on Sean, and I don’t like it. It’s the woman with the blonde bob I saw outside the clubhouse. The one who looked me up and down like I didn’t belong there, and she’s standing with Sean now, placing her hand on his arm and looking right at me, as if to taunt me. Now I know why she looked at me the way she did. She wants him for herself.

I’ve seen the way women look at him, but for some reason this one just got under my skin. The way she dismissed meandunderestimated me makes me want to walk right up to where they’re standing and kiss him. Lay claim to him right in front of her. It’s unhealthy maybe, but unavoidable, and I’m already moving.

My back is damp with sweat after sitting in the crowd with Kai watching that woman bravely bare all, full of confidence, blowing kisses to the crowd. I admired her boldness and even respect it. I never expected to feel that way while visiting a stripclub for the first time. I was having fun, but now I’m ready to show this woman that Sean Hunter is off limits.

I can’t hear what they’re saying to each other but she gives me that up-and-down look again as I approach, like I don’t belong here with Sean. I swear she mouths the wordbitchto me with an evil little glint in her eyes. It’s apparent that if I’m with him, I’m going to need to thicken my skin a little, because some of the women who hang around the club just seem ruthless, mean and out for themselves. And this one is for sure.

I close the space between Sean and me, my eyes never leaving hers as I slide my hands around his waist, on a mission. I’ve never felt jealousy like this before and I don’t like it.What the hell is happening to me?

“If you change your mind, Sean …” Her voice trails off.

“I won’t.” He doesn’t even look at her, and I’ll admit that his dismissal of her satisfies me a little.

“Trina!” Kai says on my heels, looking back at us as he locks arms with her. “I’ve been looking for you …”

“Finished working?” I ask Sean, nodding toward her.

“That’s not work,” he says, kissing me deeply. “She’s a pain in the ass, always at the club. Most of those women just want to be someone’s ol’ lady.Anyone’sol’ lady.”

“And I’m the new girl who walked in out of nowhere, so they’re all going to hate me?”

“Something like that,” he says honestly, tightening his grip on me as sultry music plays through the club. The beat pulsates through me as the margarita I just downed warms my blood. “But none of those women matter. In case it isn’t clear, I’m only looking at you, little dove.”

His words wash over me and my chest tightens as Sean chuckles into my ear, letting his hands roam my hips.

“Trina has hooked up with nearly everyone in our club. She’s not worth your time to worry about.”

“Mmmm, I’m not worried, as long as she hasn’t hooked up withyou?” I ask, alcohol making me a little more vocal than I normally would be.

“Never, but I don’t hate that my girl is jealous,” he says low against my skin.

“I’m … not jealous,” I manage to breathe out, but it sounds more like a moan because my hips just filled his palms as he squeezed them tight and his lips are trailing the length of my throat.

“I think you’re a little liar. I think the thought of my hands on any other woman here is enough to make you crazy. And you know what?” He trails the pads of his fingers up my outer thigh to the hem of my dress, and oddly enough I don’t even care if anyone sees him touch me. In fact, I think it makes his actions hotter as his lips come down over mine.

“What?” I ask as he pulls my bottom lip between his teeth.

“You being jealous is one step closer to you being mine.” The depths of his vibrant green eyes shimmer with amusement. “Because I’m fucking crazy about you, Layla.” The pad of his middle finger brushes over my nipple through my dress. “And I like that even though you won’t admit it yet, you feel the same way for me.”

His words, mixed with the idea of anyone, but especially Trina, watching us right now, are firing little cherry bombs through my blood. I pull back and look up at him, losing myself in his eyes and the way they fill with need as he looks down at me.

“I want you to fuck me,here.Right now,” I whisper, pushing against his strong hard body, sliding my hands down to the top of his ass and gripping him tight against me. “Please… Sean,” I whisper, begging him just the way he told me I would.

His response is a low growl in my ear, and before I know it, I’m moving with him down a dark hallway off the strip club floor.
