“I was just thinking the same,” I chuckle, resting my head against his shoulder.

“You’re not getting sleepy are you? I’ve still got a whole date planned.”

“Not sleepy, just content, comfortable. I love being out with you and our families like this.”

“Me too, baby. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more excited about our date, and then taking you home after.”

“Yeah,” I say, “for sleep. Forget about me being tired, you must be exhausted.”

“I’m not exhausted, more like, horny as fuck from the win,” he murmurs, nuzzling my ear.

“Insatiable jock,” I chuckle.

Stephen

We leave our parents to their drinks and walk the short distance to the restaurant I’ve booked a table at. I’ve never been, but Beth told me it’s perfect for a relaxed but romantic date. The small family-run Italian is dark, lit purely by candles, all dripping wax onto the wine bottle candle holders.

There are probably no more than twenty tables, but I’ve reserved a booth in the back so we’re out of the way, and luckily no-one recognizes me, or if they do, they leave us alone. Donovan slides in after me, and I pull him close, so our thighs are pressed together. With this being our first date in the outside world, I don’t want anyone to mistake us for friends.

“This feels very romantic,” Donovan says shyly.

“Good, it’s supposed to.”

I kiss his cheek and his eyes dart around the restaurant, maybe looking to see if there’s a reaction from anyone.

“Hey, eyes on me,” I murmur. His breath hitches as he faces me. “It’s just us, baby, no-one else matters.”

“Just us,” he whispers.

He leans in and gives me a quick kiss on the lips, before his eyes move around the restaurant again. A chuckle escapes him as his confidence grows, and he leans in for a slightly longer kiss.

“This is okay?” he asks.

“Of course it is, you can kiss me as much as you like,” I say, but at that moment my stomach lets out the loudest rumble.

He laughs, “We should maybe feed you first, before we gettoo distracted.”

“Good plan,” I say, laying a menu in front of us and nuzzling the top of his head while he browses. “Order anything you want and we’ll share.”

We end up ordering a few dishes, gnocchi with asparagus and pancetta, seafood risotto, a baked pasta dish, and something tomato based. I should have paid attention to the names because they’re all delicious, but the only thing I’m focusing on is how good it feels to have my arm around Donovan, feeding him and kissing him between mouthfuls.

He soon forgets we’re in public, his nerves disappearing, instead falling into the easy way we usually spend time together when we’re alone. I’m going to ask him to make a list of everything he wants us to do together, everything he’s ever dreamed of. This dinner date is already ticking something off, and our movie date later will be another. But I want to give him all of his firsts. Take him on a romantic weekend getaway, a shopping trip, fly him to away games so we can explore new cities together, anything and everything he wants to do.

By the time we leave the movie theater, it’s completely dark so I arrange for a taxi home. Donovan spends the ride curled up against me on the backseat, and I love that even though I had my arm around him for the entire film, we still can’t get enough of each other.

“All the lights are off,” Donovan says, as we walk up the path to the house. “Is Marcus not home?”

“He’ll still be out celebrating, and probably will be all night, so we’ve got the house to ourselves.”

I pull him into a deep kiss before we even make it to the front door.

“Still horny from the win, huh?” he chuckles.

“Always horny for you,” I murmur.

“Then why don’t you give me fifteen minutes and follow me upstairs.”

“Oh really?”
