As I was putting the quiche in the oven, I noticed James was yawning. He’d been doing it a lot since he sat down. His eyes were looking sleepy, and I saw one more opportunity.
“Jay, why don’t you go take a rest on the bed for a little bit. I spilled some of the eggs on me while I was whisking, so I’m going to jump in the shower really quick.”
I shooed him with my hands toward the bed between to back windows in the room. The light was beginning to dim outside. There was only the soft evening light that came in the winter. It didn’t take much convincing for him to stretch out on the bed. I sat by his side for a moment, giving him a few kisses.
“Mmm, your lips are addictive, Jay. You rest, and I’ll get cleaned up. Sound good?”
James nodded. “That sounds wonderful. I’m not being rude resting while you’ve so busy, am I?”
I shook my head. “Absolutely not. I want you to be completely lazy and comfy with me, Jay. This is perfect. No formal bullshit between us from now on, okay?”
James nodded sleepily and closed his eyes. I’m sure it was for a blink, but it stuck.
I set the timer for the quiche on my phone and stepped into the bathroom, quietly closing the door. I had prep to do before the timer went off. I was about to show James all that came with being with me. I had a feeling he was going to love it.
