“Wow.” I pull popped corn from the microwave and pour it into a bowl. “I love this side of you.”

“What side is that?”

“The “Willa is a sexy badass” side.”

“It’s there. Well, I’m not sure about the sexy part but the other is there. It’s just buried deep.”

Stepping into the living room, I set the bowl onto the coffee table, then I reach for Willa. With my arms around her, I kisses her cheek saying, “You’re going to get this figured out, honey.”

“Damn straight, I am.”

“And you are sexy as fuck. Trust me on that.”

“If you say so.”

“I do.”

ChapterThirty-Three

HUDSON

I didn’t doubther for a second. Not one fucking minute did I think she’d wake up this morning and decide to stay in bed and forget about her plan for today. No way. She wasthatdetermined, like the light that had dimmed recently lit right back up. Fuck. That’s exciting to see.

While I lounged in bed a little extra, Willa was up, had showered, and was clicking away on her laptop at the kitchen counter. She made me an omelet while she drank coffee and ate yogurt with fresh fruit. Then she looked me straight in the eye and said, “I need you to take me shopping. Nothing fancy. I know a place with nice clothes on a budget. I couldn’t find what I needed thrifting, so I’m going to have to go to a regular store.”

“No problem.”

“I’ll pay you back.”

“I’ve no doubt.” Probably with interest, the infuriating woman.

“Good. I just need some black slacks and a blouse.” She looks at me like she just noticed something. “Uh, you’re not going to work?”

I’m still in my lounge pants and a white tee.

“No way.” I smile.

“Why not? Are you ill?” Willa reaches out and touches my forehead like she’s seeing if I’m running a temperature.

Why did that just make me fall a little bit more in love with her?

Oh shit.Morein love?

Moving in, I answer her question. “Not ill.”

“Then why?”

“Do you think I’m going to miss Willa Clariday’s very important-kick-ass-then-take-names day? No way in hell am I missing that.”

“B-But you’re the C.F.O. Won’t you be missed?”

“Willa, honey. Except for that half day, I haven’t taken a day off in over three years.” Closer to four.

“Three years?”

“I’m okay missing a couple of days of work.”

“Have you already called in sick?”
