“Want to see the main bathroom?” Sam’s smiling from ear to ear.
I turn to face him. “Wait a second…”
“Yeah?”
“Is this what you’ve been doing? Is this why you’ve been working so many hours?”
Sam nods. “The guys have been coming over here after working on our other project.”
“Why?” He said it’d take six months. “Why the rush?”
He steps closer. “I wanted to get this done.”
“I see.” I turn to make my way to the main bedroom, but his hand on my arm stops me.
“I see those wheels turning in that pretty head of yours, and it’s not a good turning.”
“I get it.” I shrug. “You’re ready to move on.” And after I just bought that slow cooker, too.
He pulls me to him. I do my best not to look at him. “Look at me.”
Why does he have that ability to make me do the things he demands? Bossy jerk. I look up at him.
“I was trying to get this done before your lease runs out.”
“You were trying to get this finished. For me?”
“I’m getting ahead of myself, but yeah. I was thinking we’d move into this place.”
“Together?”
He chuckles. “Of course, together.”
“We haven’t even had sex yet, Sam. And you want to live together?”
“True.” He smirks. “I was also hoping to remedy that soon, too.” He kisses the tip of my nose. “We’re practically living together now.”
“Not in a good way.”
I think I said the wrong thing because Sam takes a step back. “Sorry?” He looks affronted. “Not in a good way? I thought things were fine.”
“Well, you were working so late, and you were so tired, and we certainly weren’t doing anything, you know, in bed. It felt more like roommates than living together.”
“I was doing this for you.” Now he sounds angry. There’s a bite to his voice.
“I didn’t know that, though. It was confusing.”
Sam looks at me for several seconds. Then, he steps closer and runs his hands up my bare arms. “I can see that. I’m sorry. I wanted this to be a surprise—for you to walk into the place and see how great your design ideas look.”
Pushing up onto my toes, I kiss his lips. “I see that now, and I appreciate the thought. But maybe next time, let me know what’s going on so I don’t let my imagination get the best of me.”
“Noted.”
“Can we see the bathrooms now?” I take his hand in mine and tug him with me. “I can’t wait to see the tile in the main shower.”
“I can’t wait to use the main shower. With you.”
Pushing open the door to the main bedroom, I freeze. “This room is done?” Sam has the room completely furnished, unlike the other rooms. There’s a giant king-sized bed covered in a comforter with swirls of blue against the main wall. Nightstands sit on either side of that in the same wood tones as the darker kitchen cabinets. There are also two large dressers, and a flat-screen television mounted on the wall opposite the bed, and rugs in tones of blues on either side of the bed. “It’s beautiful in here.”
