“Yes. Sexually speaking.” His right hand moves down to cup my breast. His thumb rubs back and forth over my nipple, which causes me to arch my back. Of course, it does.
“That’s nice.”
His other hand moves up and does the same thing to the other side. “You want me to take the lead?”
“I do.” I really do.
CHAPTEREIGHTEEN
CHASE
The minutewe walk through the doors of the high-school gymnasium, all eyes are on us. And I mean it. All. Eyes. Raising my arm, I place it on her lower back as she leads the way to seats being held for us by the baker friend.
“You’re late,” Bella hisses.
“No. We’re right on time,” Lou responds as she sits next to her friend. I take the seat to Lou’s right and immediately raise my arm until it rests on the back of her chair.
“Everyone is talking about you two.”
“Great,” Lou mutters. “I knew it. I should never have gone to his hotel.”
Okay. That isnota hotel.
It’s like living in a frat house except everyone there is eighty. Everyone but me. Let me tell you, those octogenarians can party. They’re up all hours of the night. I’ve complained to management twice, but he’s the one usually hosting those parties. I learned to keep it to myself because I won’t have to put up with it much longer.
My boss has had enough. At least that’s what he said over the phone earlier today. He even gave me an ultimatum. One I can’t ignore.
The question is, how I’m going to let Lou know?
What if I don’t tell her? What if I jump into my car and leave in the middle of the night? Even if she went to look for me, she’d never find me.
You know what? I don’t think I’ll have to worry about Lou Hamlin looking for me. She’s got too much pride. And something about that notion bothers me a little.
Honestly. It bothers me a lot. More than it should.

“Did you like it?”Lou asks me about the show the minute we’re back in my car, but my mind is elsewhere.
“Yeah. Sure.” I turn to face her and reach for her hand. “Lou…”
“Uh-oh.” The smile that was just on her face has fallen away.
I nod. “I have to leave tomorrow.”
“Okay.” She nods, attempting to put a smile back on.
“I’ve had a great time with you.”
“Me too.” She pulls her hand away and begins to search through her purse. I’m not sure what she’s looking for, but something tells me it was just a way to pull away.
“If you ever get to California?” Why the hell did I say that? Even if she did make it there, she’d never find me.
She waves me off. “Thanks. Sure. Yeah. I’ll, uh, look you up.”
Even though it’s dark outside, and there’s little light inside my car, I can see her eyes shining. “Don’t cry.”
“I’m not,” Lou snaps. “I knew what this was. A fling. A vacation fling. No worries.” She waves me off. “I’m fine.” Clearing her throat, she reaches for her seatbelt. “You’d better take me back to my truck. I need to get home.”
