“Well,shewas fucking interesting.”
That statement came from my best friend and teammate, Cody. I’ve known him for a few years, so I know what he really means. “Interesting” to Cody isn’t a compliment. He thinks she was weird.
Ordinarily, I’d agree, except for the fact there was something about her that intrigued me. Maybe it’s the fact that she’s not like anyone else in this place. That and she made me smile. Something very few people have been able to do lately.
“She was definitely interesting.” ExceptImean it like it’s a good thing.
It’s too bad she ran off.
Literally.
She turned and ran into the sea of people.
“Come on, man.” Cody slaps my back. “Plenty more where that came from.”
He means girls. There are plenty more of them. He’s right. The minute we got a table, they started circling us.
I reach for the beer he’s holding in front of me. “Right.” I follow him back to the table where it’s surrounded by the usual puck bunnies. There arealwaysbunnies and I’m not going to lie, I’m over them. It’s old. Played. Not that I’ve been with all of them, I haven’t but a fair share, though none of them had that thing that makes me want more than a night.
Now, don’t get all pissed off about me saying something as insensitive as that. I’m sure they’re all nice girls, but I haven’t met a single one that gave me pause.
Now… that girl tonight. She gave me pause. I was ready to dig in there, get to know her, but before I could even say another word, poof, she was gone. One minute there was this intriguing little gem in front of me saying the most ridiculous line and the next she was in the wind.
Damn.I’ll probably never see her again. And that sucks.
