“Really?”
“Really.”
Eli’s smile is sweet and sincere. I love it.
I reach for the door handle. “I need to go meet Carley at Gilly’s. She’s waiting for me.”
“Sit tight. I’ll drive you over.”
I point to the building two doors down from where we’re parked. “I can walk—”
“My girl isn’t going to walk in the cold.”
I snort at that. “Eli, that’s a ridiculous thing to say.”
His expression shifts from something smiley to the most serious thing I’ve ever seen. “You’re my girlfriend, Emma Perkins. I won’t have you walking in the cold. When you’re with me, I’ll take care of you.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.” He nods a little testily. “‘Oh’ is right.” I feel his lips on mine and then they’re gone. “Girlfriend.”
“Okay,boyfriend.”
“Damn right,” he grumbles.
And I smile.
