“So. What are you going to wear? You need to wear your cutest outfit.”

Over the summer, I invested in some workout leggings and tops that match. For some reason, and Deena was right about this, when you feel like you look cute while working out, it’s more fun. Honest to goodness. It’s the truth.

Absently, I wave her off but say, “I’m wearing my new navy blue set.” That will appease her. Picking my phone back up, I decide to nip this in the bud.

Me:Thanks anyway but I’m good.

Sure, a ride would’ve been nice but…

A second later, he replies.

Lucky:Picking you up at 4:30. Don’t argue.

Okay. I’m just going to have to say it.

Here goes…

Me:Lucky, you cannot come to my very first class. I’m nervous as it is.

Lucky:I make you nervous?

I have to think about this question. It’s a trick.

Me:No. You don’t make me nervous…

Yes, he does.

Me:I’m nervous for my first day and I’d prefer my first class be complete strangers. Let me try this out a few times before you decide to pop in and critique me.

Lucky:Critique you? I wouldn’t.

Me:Come on, Lucky… I’m going to be worried about what I’m doing as is. I’d prefer you didn’t see the train wreck right away.

Lucky:I wasn’t planning on going to your class. I was going to do my usual workout. It helps me since I haven’t had time in the afternoon to get there. So, driving you gets me there too. This isn’t about you.

Oh, well, that sort of stung.

Me:Fine. Thank you. I appreciate the gesture. See you at 4:30.

Lucky:Yep

“Morning,”I mumble, sliding into Lucky’s passenger seat—but since it’s the first word out of my mouth this morning, it comes out sort of scratchy.

“Here.” He hands me a travel cup. “Made you a smoothie.”

I take the stainless-steel cup in hand and bring it to my nose to sniff. “Banana?”

“Among other things.”

“I’m not sure I can eat yet.” My stomach is literally flipping over. “Sort of feel nauseous.”

“You’re gonna be great. Just take a couple sips, see if it helps.”

Placing the cup to my lips, I tip it back just enough to get about a teaspoon of the drink. “Mm. Good.” And it is, but I’m still wary about eating or drinking anything just yet. Placing it in his cupholder, I glance over at him. I take a moment to check him out, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen him this early in the day before.

He looks good. His hair looks like he styled it, but there’s no way he’d shower before he goes to the gym, right? He’s wearing a college tee and what looks to be a pair of sweatpants. I suspect he’s got shorts on underneath the pants, along with some other things that I’m no longer allowed to fantasize about. It’s none of my business what Lucky Ganetti has in his pants.
