“Fine.” I arch my brow. “How ’bout you? Did you get the guy?”
“Yeah?” she shrugs. “Nothing to phone home about.”
She’s talking about the sex.
“Sorry.” I’m not sure Deena is ever happy with the sex afterwards. Maybe if she did the sex with someone she actually cared about…. That’s none of my business, though. And since I’ve never hadthe sex, I’m probably not the right person to speculate about the reasons she’s never satisfied with her partners.
Wow, that was a lot. What I just said there.
It was a confession, of sorts. Not that you’re surprised, right? I mean, I mentioned earlier that I’ve never had a boyfriend.
And believe me, I’m one of those people who wants to doit. I just prefer the first time to be with someone I love. Sue me.
“Well, I’ve got a ton of homework. Gonna head to the library.”
“Booooooring.”
I roll my eyes, but she can’t see. “I know. School is such a drag.”
“Right?”
I giggle, because the girl makes me laugh. “You could come with me?” I’m sure she’s got homework.
She crinkles up her nose, and it’s adorable. How does she do that? Look adorable with a scrunched-up face? “I’d rather go to the mall, but thanks.”
Me too. But no money and no time means no mall.
“Want to go down to dinner together later?”
“Sure.” She gives me her brightest smile. “Six?”
“Perfect.” At my desk, I gather up my laptop and books and stuff them into my bookbag. After that, I’m out the door.

Becklyn
“Hey, Foxy.”
That voice… he used my nickname.
I look up and blink at the sight of him all gorgeous in a hoody and jeans. Seriously. The man can make an ancient hoody look amazing.
I sigh because…God, he’s beautiful.
“Whatcha doin’?” He nods at my laptop.
“Writing a riveting paper comparing and contrasting the benefits of electric cars versus the internal combustion engine.”
“Really?” He looks surprised.
“Really.”
“And?” He slides into the seat across from me. “What’s your conclusion?”
“Obviously, the electric car.” I’m taking a class in Environmental Science thinking this might be a good major for me. We’ll see. So far, I’m not sure it’s my thing.
“Obviously. But why? I’ve heard some negative things about the batteries used in electric cars.”
