She rolls her eyes, then snickers. “You’re saying you’ve got a rep to protect?”
“In a way. Not only that, if we do decide to buy a place together, I want it to be our forever home.”
“Oh.” She’s no longer snickering. “I—”
I hold up my hand to stop her. “The home we buy together should be one we could picture our kids living in forever.”
“Kids?”
“I’m thinking three.”
“Three.”
“Another important part of this is that I want you to pick it out. I want it to feel like your apartment. Warm, inviting, homey, and happy.”
“Wow.” She looks surprised. “I figured you’d want something modern.”
“Why do you think I kept showing up at your place?” Okay, that didn’t come out right. “Before you misunderstand that last statement, what I meant to say, besides the factyouwere there. And then Brynn. Your place felt like home.”
“Thank you.” Maggy’s voice has gotten soft. “It has character.”
“And I want that in the home we buy together.” Reaching out, I take her hand. “We’ll set a budget for the house, but think of this as a legacy for our kids. Something we can pass down to them.”
“That’s your way of saying you’re planning on dropping a bundle on a house.”
“No. It’s my way of saying I’m willing to drop a bundle on ourhome.”
She shakes her head and rolls her eyes at the same time. I reach out and place my palm on the back of her neck. I move closer. “I love you, Maggy.”
“I love you too.”
“Here’s a fun fact.”
“What’s that?”
“Our baby’s asleep.”
Maggy looks down at Brynn, who’s sound asleep in my arms.
“Which means…”
“What?”
“I’m taking my woman to bed now.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. Oh.”

I thoughtI’d love house hunting.
I don’t.
And the reason being? Nate, my boyfriend (I love saying that), is a snob and a half. Also, his cranky side has made a reappearance. Apparently, he doesn’t enjoy house hunting either.
