“I’ll pick up.”

“Good.”

Romeo frowned. It was news to him about Ally retiring.

“See you later,” Chad said.

Those words were ice to Romeo’s heart.

That’s what Chad had said to him on the day he didn’t come home.

Chad shut the front door.

Thirty seconds later, Ally blasted the car horn.

Romeo flung open the door and stalked down the hallway.Chad leaned against the wall with his eyes shut. They opened when he heard Romeo on the top step.

“I didn’t know she’d be here that long ...you must be hungry.”

Romeo didn’t answer.He glared.

“Christ, Romeo. How long are you going to keep this up?”

“I don’t know,” he said honestly.

“I need your help.”

“It’s too late to ask for it.You should’ve askedbefore.”

Chad closed his eyes.“Help me remember.”

“How do I do that?”

“You spend time with me.”

Romeo inflated with a deep breath.“I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I told you earlier, I dreamed of killing you then fucking your dead body.”

“It was only a dream.”

“Only a...Chad,” Romeo came down the stairs.“I’m a danger to you, more so than I’ve ever been.I don’t know how to deal with this.”

“Deal with what?”

“The knowledge that it was all a lie.”

“It wasn’t,” Chad said firmly.“Itisn’t.”

“How can you say that—"

“Because I know it wasn’t.I know it isn’t,” Chad ran his hands into his hair, and tugged.“I know you hate me, Romeo, and that’s okay.I get it.But I don’t hate you.Far from it.”

“You don’t even know me.You don’t remember—”

“I remember a lot more than you think I do.”Chad blinked back tears from his eyes.“That’s why I don’t understand.”
