“It’ll be perfectly imperfect. That’s what we are.”

Romeo watched Chad taking deep breaths for a few moments.Chad’s head dipped forward, like he was falling asleep, and he startled when Romeo said his name.

“What was in your hand?”Romeo asked, frowning.“When you left...”

“Oh,” Chad murmured, shoving his hand into the hoodie.“This.”

He held his hand out.Romeo hesitated before reaching back.

Chad dropped the rabbit ear onto his palm.

Romeo curled his fingers around it, still frowning. It was from one of Mercutio’s toys. He’d chewed both ears off.

“Why are you dressed like that?”Romeo cocked his head, studying Chad’s attire.“Where have you been?”

Chad smiled his way.“I was setting a trap.”

“A trap?”

“For our next victim.”

They were buzz words for Romeo’s brain.

Our.

Next.

Victim.

“You’ve been waiting,” Chad said.“You’ve been waiting so patiently, and I know it musthurtwith how badly you need it.”

Romeo’s throat tightened.He nodded.

Chad’s brow twitched in sympathy, and he nodded too.

“Graham Brennan,” Romeo managed to get the name out.

“He was the last time,” Chad whispered. He shifted closer.“It’s been too long, I know, but I’m bringing someone to you.”

“Bringing someone?”

Chad nodded again.

Our next victim.

Romeo was still basking in the effects of Chad’s words as Chad struggled to get to his feet.He snapped to attention, and rushed over, steadying him.

“Okay?”

“Lightheaded,” Chad answered. He winced.“I’ve got a few more scrapes and bruises than when I set out, but apart from that...”

“When are we to expect this victim?”

Chad smiled. His eyes sparked.“I expect they’ll come here tomorrow.I’ve things to prepare first...”

“You’re not going to tell me who they are?”

“It’s a surprise. But I can’t wait to see you kill them.”Chad grabbed the front of Romeo’s t-shirt, twisting the fabric.Fire flickered in his gaze.“I really can’t fucking wait.”
