“Sir, look out!” Juno whisper-shouted, sending a silent bullet into a big ass raccoon.
I chuckled. “Good looking.” I tried the back door handle, and it came right open. I was a little skeptical about entering. This shit did look like something straight out of a horror film.
I noticed some stairs leading up into the kitchen and crept through with my gun leading the way. Once we made it through the kitchen, I saw the light in the hall was on, followed by doors on both sides. Juno went ahead of me, checking what I assumed were rooms before we finally entered the living room, where this nigga was sleeping in the recliner. The TV was louder than it should have been, and the house was disgusting beyond measure. I lifted my gun and sent a bullet into the wall over his head. He jumped immediately, looking like he was about to piss on himself.
“What the—what the fuck are you doing in my shit! Who are you?” he asked.
“The grim reaper. I came to collect your soul.”
“What you—man, I ain’t got shit for you.”
“I can see that,” I said, eyes perusing the dirty shoe box he called home. “So, you like sending threatening letters and shit?” I asked him, pulling the note from my pocket and tossing it at him. When he didn’t pick it up and just stared at me, I knew he knew I knew.
“Who sent you?”
He still stared at me as if I wasn’t talking to him.
“Are they worth you dying tonight?”
“I don’t give a fuck. I ain’t telling you shit.”
I smirked. “I love that for me. Juno.” I nodded to the front door as he went to open it, letting Kevin and Lou inside.
“Ugh. It’s even worseinthis motherfucka,” Kevin stated, pulling a chuckle from Juno and Lou.
“Time to get to work, fam.” I nodded to Kevin, who didn’t hesitate to deliver blows to the nigga’s face and body. Orlando tried to fight back, but he was no match for Kevin. “That’s enough,” I called it once I started seeing him weakening. Kevin picked him up from the floor, putting him back in the dusty, brown chair.
“You still don’t want to give me a name?”
He looked at me with his one good eye and spat blood toward me. “Fuck . . . you!”
“A’ight.” I lifted my gun and sent four bullets into him. His body jerked, and life left it. I didn’t have time to stand here and play Blue’s Clues with this bum. “Grab his phone, and let’s roll,” I told Kevin. He did as I instructed while I put in the call to the cleaning crew. It was crazy how people would risk their lives for a few dollars, including myself. The only difference between Orlando and me was that my dollars were endless, and I had a purpose.
It was all coming to an end for me, though, and I was determined not to let this shit claim my soul.
We headed back to the warehouse; Juno switched out the cars, and I had Kevin and Lou take the truck we were in to get stripped.
I pulled out my cell and dialed Yumi. It was crazy how much I’d miss her when we weren’t together. She had always been my peace—my haven.
“Hi, handsome.” Her syrupy voice came through the receiver, making my dick come to life.
“What’s up, beautiful? What are you doing?”
She sighed, dejectedly. “On my way to your brother’s. There’s been a snag in the road.”
“I’ll meet you there.”
“Okay.” We hung up. “Ju, hit Mill’s crib,” I told him. If it wasn’t one thing, it was another, and because he and Mook werebeing watched, I had to get in the field to make sure these niggas didn’t spend a day in prison. I didn’t mind, but the shit was taking its toll on me.
Seventeen more days.
Juno pulledbehind Yumi’s truck once we made it through my brother’s gates. I got out, walked over to her door, and opened it. She smiled at me when I pulled her into my arms and grabbed two handfuls of her ass.
“I missed you,” I admitted, putting my face in the crook of her neck and inhaling her sweet perfume.
“I missed you, too.”
I kissed her neck, lips, and forehead, then led her to my brother’s door. A few moments later, Mina answered and smiled at us.
