How did I survive without the Moons in my life?
Biology went off without a hitch, except my jealousy was growing at an alarming rate where Jet was concerned. In every class, beautiful women surrounded him. As we took our seats in Battle Tactics, it was no different.
I needed to control this feeling. I felt jealous of the other four, but it was never this bad. Thewhyof that wasn’t hard to figure out. I was confident in their feelings, but Jet ran hot and cold. If I weren’t Aurathion, I’d kick him to the curb and move on, but my Nexus wasn’t quite ready to give up.
Jet just wanted to be friends…maybe. I wasn’t entirely sure where I stood with the impassive giant. But I wasn’t the kind of girl to dwell on shit like this, Nexus or not.
I had four beautiful men I was sure of, and every single one of them wanted to become a member of my Faction. Two of them hadn’t taken no for an answer. I wouldn’t chase after one man who blew hot and cold, even if I had to fight myself every step of the way.
I’d have to learn to be his friend and keep the stronger emotions to myself. It wouldn’t be easy because my Nexus wanted Jet with a passion. I knew our bond would be true, just like with my other men. That’s why it was so hard to control my emotions.
I glanced at Zane, who winked at me from the desk in the corner. We’d previously had another student teacher, but with the higher threat level we now faced, the guys wanted to make sure at least one of them was with me in every class. Two of them, if they could manage it, were even better.
Nathan pulled me out of my thoughts. “Don’t worry so much about Jet. He’ll come around.” He squeezed my thigh.
“I hope I’m not that obvious.” I frowned.
“You wouldn’t be to anyone else, but I have a master’s degree in Reverie Hawthorne.” He smiled.
I stared into his beautiful green eyes and whispered, “I love you. I feel like I don’t say it enough.”
Nathan looked taken aback, and then his face lit up. “I’ll never get tired of hearing it.” He smiled tenderly, “There aren’t words to describe what you are to me.”
I threaded our fingers together, brought his hand to my face, and kissed his knuckles, dropping it immediately when I felt a sudden burst of heat in my chest. My eyes fell closed, and I could see the source of my Nexus abilities and the strand that represented my bond with Nathan.
Typically, it was a beautiful, glowing emerald green, like his eyes, surrounding my vibrant center of power. The color remained unchanged, but now amber flames mixed with green, appearing to merge and leaving the red ring, representing Oren, to encircle the larger orb.
Nathan grabbed my shoulders in alarm when I opened my eyes, staring at my face in concern.
“What?” I asked, my voice sounding slurred.
I didn’t feel so good. The lights were too bright, and everything was blurry. Before he could answer, Nathan grabbed his left peck and hunched over, moaning in pain.
“Nathan! What’s wrong?” I rubbed my eyes, trying to focus. I squinted toward Zane’s desk, hoping to get his attention. I didn’t know what was happening, but we needed to get out of here before everyone noticed.
Thankfully, the blur I assumed was Zane got up and headed our way.
Before he reached us, Nathan raised his head slightly. “Your eyes are back to normal.” He whispered, obviously still in pain.
“What the hell was wrong with my eyes, and why are you clutching your chest?” I knew he had no more answers than I did, but I was starting to freak out.
“My chest was burning like I was being branded from the inside out.” He looked as confused as I felt.
“What’s going on?” Zane asked when he reached us, his eyes narrowed in concern.
“We need to get out of here because something strange is happening. Can you make an excuse to Professor Lee?” Nathan asked urgently.
“Shit,” Zane mumbled.
“What?” I couldn’t tear my gaze away from Nathan.
It was like our connection had grown ten times over. The ball of amber light in my chest was going crazy, and it seemed to expand. Suddenly, I felt a burst of power spreading throughout my body.
“Professor Lee is heading this way,” Nathan whispered. He hadn’t taken his eyes off me, so I had no idea how he knew that.
“What’s going on?” Chloe demanded. She had paused to talk with Joan on her way into class and hadn’t been nearby when whatever this was happened.
Just then, Professor Lee arrived. “Get both of them to Oren now. I’ll make an excuse to the class for her departure.”
