“Our plan is dependent on Razor’s secret ability. He’s going to mimic his Nexuses’ power and bind us together.” Damien moved his hand in a circular motion between Hayes, me, and himself. “If you get pulled back by Emberhold, we’ll be takenwith you.” He smiled at Hayes, “If you’re not taken back before your battle, we have a backup plan. Razor happens to know where he can touch a Fellat and mimic its ability to create a portal.”
Hayes looked as stunned by this revelation as I did. I wasn’t even aware that a Fellat had this ability. It looked like Pantar would be even more help to my…. I mean our Faction than I knew.
“What ability does your Nexus have that will allow us to be tied together?” I asked Razor. “I’ve bonded to a Nexus and she didn’t get pulled here with me.”
He beamed with pride, “She has the ability to bind anyone, whether person, animal, or object, to a location, person, or thing.” His expression turned grave. “Tanya has been coerced into binding unwilling Aurathions into these fucked up Factions, where the Nexus can’t support more than two or three members.
Additionally, she has been forced to keep prisoners of war bound to deadly regions of Aurathia, essentially forcing her to perform their executions.”
“I promise to find a way to get your Faction free of this horrible situation,” Damien assured Razor, seeing the worry on his face.
Razor nodded, “I know you will.” He looked at both Damien and Hayes in desperation. “I don’t know how much longer she can live like this. The guilt has changed her, and I’m scared she’ll end herself if I don’t find a way out for us.”
I approached him and gripped his shoulder. “I won’t forget what you’re doing for me. You can count on my Faction to help also.”
Razor's surprised look was a little insulting, but a look of gratitude took its place, and he smiled. “Thanks, Nathan. I appreciate that.”
Hayes hadn’t spoken for a while and when I glanced at him, I saw that he looked deep in thought.
Damien must have noticed, too, “Hayes, what’s up? Is something wrong with our plan?”
Hayes didn’t speak for a moment, still internally debating something. He paced the room, then paused and narrowed his eyes, “What if we didn’t wait? Why couldn’t we get the hell out of here tonight?”
Damien looked stunned momentarily at the idea, then turned to Razor, “Why couldn’t we?”
Razor started laughing, “Why couldn’t we? It might actually be safer.”
“Is there a reason you want to speed things up?” Damien asked Hayes with suspicion.
“There is, but I’d rather not say until we’re out of here.” Hayes refused to meet Damien’s eyes.
I felt my heart speed up at the thought of being reunited with my Nexi sooner rather than later. However, now I was concerned with what Hayes knew that he wasn’t sharing with us.
“Could what you know be a danger to the Factions back in my world?” I narrowed my eyes.
Hayes nodded his head but didn’t speak.
“Okay, then. It looks like we're getting out of here tonight,” Damien said with determination.
Icouldn’t believe that these lunatics were trying to start a Fellat breeding program. Were there no lengths that they wouldn’t go to?
Razor had led us to a building at the furthest point away from the coliseum. It was nondescript and didn’t look like it was maintained. Of course, I had never been near this place, but that wasn’t surprising. What was surprising was that it was obvious Hayes had never been here either.
“I thought you were going to have to retrieve a Fellat. I didn’t know the program was right here beneath my nose.” The anger in Hayes’s voice was apparent.
“I’ve known about it for some time, my friend. But I was scared to tell you in case you did something rash,” Damien said cautiously. I could tell that Hayes was fighting the urge to fly into a rage, but after a few moments, he nodded to Damien.
“You were right to do so. I could have never let this stand and Selene would’ve had the excuse she’s been looking for to lock me to her side.”
Damien patted Hayes on the back, “None of that shit will matter if this works.”
“Okay, first things first. Nathan, we need to use your ability to get rid of the tracking devices in both of your necks.” Damien rubbed his hands together.
“Ummm, excuse me? What are you talking about? I don’t know how to do that.” I was confused.
“Don’t worry, kid. Razor can use your ability to do it. I don’t think you’re ready for such a precise maneuver,” Damien smiled.
Razor walked over and touched my arm. He then gripped my neck with the palm of his hand covering the entry point of the tracking device. His hand sent a wave of heat through me that almost brought me to my knees. It felt as if I were being branded from the inside out.
