“Oh, is that what you call it?” I wanted to roll my eyes but I didn’t take them off him.

“There is bigger shit going on than you understand.”

“And I’ve been asking people to fill me in but no one wants to.”

He gave me a look like I was stupid. Of course they weren’t going to keep me up to date on their plans. I was their prisoner, not a guest.

“When is she coming back?” I asked quietly. He wasn’t going to talk. Whatever hold Danica had over this MC, it was stronger than I’d thought at first. His Prez was a weak ass bitch, that much was obvious, but Mace, he seemed like he wasn’t down with this, that he didn’t like what she was doing. So what exactly did she have over him?

He sighed like he was done with this. “Two days,” he eventually said.

His phone buzzed in his pocket. He didn’t take his eyes off me as he pulled it out. After he looked at it though, he cursed.

“Trouble?” I asked.

“Not the kind you’re thinking.”

“It’s only a matter of time,” I said, with complete faith my family would come for me. “Wait!” I called out to him as he walked to the door, his text clearly needing his attention.

“What?” he snapped.

“Could I get a shower later. My hair needs washing and… well…”

“You smell?” his lip twitched.

Oh, this he finds funny. The fucking ass. I glared at him.

“I’ll see.”

It wasn’t a no. And this was the longest conversation I’d had with him since I was taken. I was starting to wear him down. I just needed to play on our mutual dislike of my mother to get him to talk before she gets back. I had two days to do it. It was time to channel my brother and turn on some of the Curtis charm.

He left without another word and I got the impression he was going to leave wherever we were. Did that mean someone else was watching me? What if Lily came back? That said, I’d like to have another shot at that bitch.

Plus she killed Connor. She signed her death warrant admitting that. It wouldn’t be by my hand, I didn’t think I could do something like that, but there were plenty of people in the MC who would happily do it. Warren in particular. I didn’t know how he would feel about it when he found out she was our sister. Whether that would make him change his mind.

I doubted it, knowing she’d been the one to end Connor’s life, he wouldn’t care at all. I hated that he would have to know that. If I ever got out of here, I would need to speak to him about it and try to convince him that yes, she needed to pay, but it shouldn’t be by his hand. Whether we liked her or not, she was still blood.

I glanced down at the clothes I was wearing. Hudson’sGuns N Rosest-shirt. I pinched it between my fingers, raising it up to my nose, foolishly wishing I could smell him on it. I scrunched up my nose, it didn’t smell like him anymore.

“Where are you Hudson?” I asked the empty room on a whisper. Then said something I hadn’t thought I would say again for the last five years. “I need you.”

I didn’t know if I would get out of here, or if Danica would ever show her hand and let me knowwhyI was here.

I didn’t want to give up. Hudson and Warren wouldn’t. Which meant, I couldn’t either.

Chapter Six

I checked my phone when it vibrated in my pocket. We were about ten minutes from home and waiting at a set of lights. The text was from Ballistic telling me there was a meeting of the council that War needed to be there for. At first I wasn’t sure why he was texting me and not War, but he followed it up with another one saying I had to be there too. I let War know about the meeting, he gave me a grim nod, still looking out the window. We’d barely talked on the way home. We were both still tired, emotionally drained and on edge.

I tried to focus on the drive and what we were going to discuss but my mind kept wandering back to Waverley. I’d seen first-hand what the Kingsmen were capable of doing to people they had taken. Declan’s “accident” had been all over the news, because he was the manager of an up and coming rock band currently breaking out into the mainstream. They were devastated when they found out what happened.

We had no way of knowing if he was going to keep his mouth shut about being kidnapped and beaten by an MC, but it wasn’t us, so we were in the clear. He had no idea we had come after them to help him for Waverley. If he did talk to the police, it would be the Kingsmen he identified, which would mean more trouble for them. They had not intended to release him alive, so he was aloose end.

I didn’t really give a shit about him personally, but I could see the benefit in making sure nothing happened to him. Especially if it sent the police sniffing around the Kingsmen. I’d bring it up at the meeting. We had left a couple of guys with him but they were called back when Waverley was taken. We should put someone else on him.

The thought of anyone hurting Waverley like that…

I shut down that thought as we arrived back at the compound. Ballistic was talking to Banshee at the bar, as soon as he saw us, he said something to Banshee and they both got up and headed towards the basement. Ballistic nodded for us to follow. I hadn’t been made an officer but I was grateful King was keeping me looped in on the plans.
