Back at my bike, I force my head out of this part of my life and think about what I need to do next. There is always something I’m needed for.
I pull on one glove but pause when my phone buzzes. My brows lift when I see the name. It wasn’t one I thought would ever call me.
When I answer she doesn’t give me much chance to speak.
“King has asked for my assistance in a matter than involves you. I have two hours free to meet you to discuss. Stroudsburg is too far out of the way. There is a diner off I-80, near Allamuchy.”
“I know it,” I say. The tone of her voice means there isn’t much point in arguing. King is asking her, so it really is business. I thought I’d be here longer so can spare the time.
“I’ll meet you there in half an hour.” Cassie hangs up.
It won’t take me that long to get there because I’m not in Stroudsburg. She won’t be expecting that. This bossy side of her intrigues me. I surprise myself when I realize I’m smiling.
When Cassie enters the diner more than one head turns to watch her. She is about to settle at a table near the window when she spots me in the back corner. Her eyes widen for a second then she gets a grip on her surprise and heads toward me.
I purposely parked the bike at the back of the diner to throw her off. It’s kind of fun messing with her. Her look is all serious though as she glides into the chair opposite me. She looks hot as fuck in her pale gray skirt suit and a thin blouse buttoned just above her cleavage line. Small pearl buttons glint in the light as she gets comfortable.
I’ve seen her with her hair down plenty of times but something about this prim and proper look is getting my blood hot. I spread my legs wider beneath the table and will my cock to behave. It’s hard, both trying thatandmy cock.
No woman has ever got me hard by walking into a room. It should worry me. Our one and only time has got to remain just that. Besides, King has sent her to see me, this isn’t something she chose to do herself.
A server comes over and offers Cassie a drink. I have a coffee in front of me, it’s been a long day and I suspect it’s going to get longer after this meeting, so I need the caffeine.
Cassie thanks her as she fills up her cup. She leaves it black which doesn’t surprise me. Although I had half expected her to say she didn’t want anything, given this is supposed to be a quick meeting.
The woman holds the carafe in my direction and I nod, she fills my cup, her eyes flicking from what she is doing, to my face.
“Be careful,” Cassie says as she almost overfills the cup.
“Sorry,” she mutters, her cheeks pinking.
I can’t help smirking at her and she blushes even harder. Cassie exhales and sets her purse on the table, making the woman jump.
“If you need anything, a menu… Or.”
“We’ll call if we do,” Cassie says.
When I look over, I expect her to be annoyed, but she isn’t. In fact, she has a friendly look on her face, setting the server at ease. She nods and walks away, leaving us alone.
“Well, that was, weird,” she takes out her phone, checks it, then sets it face down beside her purse.
“Happens all the time,” I wink when she looks at me.
“I’m sure it does,” she replies. “You must have broke some laws getting here so fast. Is that wise?”
“You worried?”
She lets out a sigh. “Not in the slightest. Anyway.” She folds her hands on top of one another on the table. “A few days ago you were involved in a situation where an unexpected item was in a van you were escorting.”
My lip tilts at the way she describes it. Although she can’t come outright and say it here. My smile fades quickly. Why has King sent her here to talk about this?
“The man involved, I’ve tried to track him down, but he seems to have disappeared. Your deal was with him, so I need your help to find him.”
“Marshall has disappeared?” My head cants to the side as I look out of the window.
Cassie doesn’t answer. It was rhetorical anyway. This place is not on a main road so it’s quiet, a few pedestrians walking on the sidewalk, a dog pissing up a tree. It’s all so suburban.
“Why are you asking me about this? What has King got you doing?”
