I knew we would have to leave our little sanctuary soon, where I was pretty sure the small group of helpers outside heard exactly what had occurred.
But as I threw my leg across Harrison's body and felt him reach down to tap my ass, I couldn't bring myself to care.
"I'm not Carrie," I sighed happily. "I'm Sam."
"What?"
I giggled, not realizing that I had spoken out loud.
"Nothing," I assured, pulling his mouth back to mine.
CHAPTER 17
"Welldone, mylove,"I purred, stroking the side of Harrison's handsome face.
His dimpled smile lit up the room as he tightened his grip on my waist. It was coming to the end of our wonderful night, and luckily, the reunion had gone off without a hitch. To be fair, a hurricane could have torn the roof off, and I would still have gushed about how pretty the night sky was. Nothing could get me down.
Our graduating class that still lived in Ashburton attended, but even a few who had moved out of town and out of State made the trek back for the occasion. Families were also invited, which created a joyous atmosphere filled with laughter and reminiscing.
I had no qualms about tonight. I had made my peace with everyone—well, everyone except Jessica, but I was hardly crying over that—and I enjoyed chatting and reacquainting myself with my fellow classmates. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the love and devotion of one Harrison O'Connor.
We were in the middle of the dance floor, swaying toWork Songby Hozier. Our eyes were only for each other as we stole kisses between our movements.
The night had truly been perfect. I didn't want it to end. I didn't want my time in Ashburton to end.
A frown marred my features as I realized that Amelia and Liam's wedding was next week. I planned on staying the extra two weeks in Ashburton instead of hightailing out as I had initially planned. But after that, then what?
"Hey," Harrison's voice jerked me out of my troubling thoughts. "Where did you go, baby?"
"Harrison, what's going to happen after my vacation leave ends?" His gaze was warm, his arms safe, yet I couldn't help but feel the worry engraved on me.
"I love you so much and want to be with you," I reaffirmed. "But my life, my work… it's in San Francisco. How will this work? There are no jobs in my field in any of the towns near here and no openings for anything interesting in the larger cities, but–"
"Gracie, Gracie," Harrison gently interrupted my ramblings. "I know how important your work is, baby. I'm so damn proud of you, and I would never ask you to give up such an important position to move back here."
"Then how–"
"Remember Coach Holloway? I told you how another school poached him. Well, it was for a high school out in San Diego. I know that's not near where you are, but he has contacts with other coaches in California and he's put the feelers out for a position for me."
My mouth dropped. "What? Are you serious?"
His smile was smug and satisfied. "Yep, he said he knows a couple of schools looking for coaching staff, and he's gonna let me know real soon."
"When?" I pouted.
"Soon," he laughed. "Hey, I've been without you for years. I can wait a couple of weeks or months until we can be living together."
"Living together, huh?" I teased. "Highly presumptuous of you."
"Baby, I'm betraying my hometown and moving out West for you. You bet your sweet ass I'm gonna have you in my bed every night to make up for it."
I giggled and placed a gentle kiss on his mouth.
"Meanwhile, I was thinking that after your vacation ends, I can come out and spend the rest of summer break with you. Hopefully, while I'm there, Coach will have an answer for me, but if not, at least I can spend some naked alone time with my girl. You can show me all the sights and convince me why they say that the West Coast is the best coast."
I squealed and hugged him. "Yes, yes! I would love you to come back with me. Oh, my God!"
He laughed as he spun me around the dance floor.
