I could still hear her cackle as I ended the call. I smiled as I thought about everything she’d said. Could I picture myself married to Theo? Living in this house?

That was not a thought I wanted to entertain. Not yet.

CHAPTER 11

THEO

That wasthe best kiss of my life.

For five days those words had played over in my head. Between friends popping in and the various crises at her bar or my office, we had successfully managed to avoid each other for almost an entire week.

And the thing was, she didn’t give those words any thought, they just fell from her mouth as if they were obvious. Those words echoed around my mind as I fell asleep, and they were the first thought I had when I opened my eyes. Followed closely by my own thoughts on the matter. And I had quite a few.

Firstly, fuck yes. It was the best kiss of my life. She melted into my arms as if she belonged there, the sweet taste of her tongue against mine. And those breathy little moans. All of it led me to the second conclusion. Just the thought of getting my lips back on hers, got me hard as fuck.

I shook off my thoughts and focused on the task at hand as I willed my erection away. I had other, more mundane things to think about.

I flipped the switch on the coffee maker and the dull noise hummed through the empty kitchen. Usually, Maggie was thefirst one up and in the kitchen but I wanted to make sure I caught her.

Hopefully, I would have a chance to talk to her before any of the kids came downstairs.

I popped bread in the toaster and I took out mugs for each of us. Connor had just acquired a taste for coffee. And as much as I wanted to rally against it, I relented and allowed him one cup in the morning. Zoe could probably use a cup, but she wouldn’t have the time.

Any thought I had of talking to Maggie disappeared when she and Connor walked into the kitchen at the same time.

Her frown was adorable. “You’re not getting ready for the office?”

“I’m working from home today.”

It wasn’t something I did regularly. Generally, I preferred to keep my business dealings as far away from my home as I could. But I needed to make time for Maggie.

While she prepared the lunches, I set out the toast and the cereal for Hayden and Jaycee. Each time we need to occupy the same space, I’d guide her gently with my hand on her hip or the small of her back.

Her reactions to me did not make things easy. The small hitch of her breath as I reached above her to find the cereal bowls, and my hips brushed against her ass. My cock twitched in my boxers, forcing me to stay behind the huge island to hide my erection.

Connor was not stupid, though. And even as we both worked in silence, my brother’s eyes narrowed on the two of us.

Every time we touched, heat and electricity spiked through me. I wanted to have our talk. I wanted to do so much more than talk.

By the time Hayden and Jaycee came downstairs, I had gotten myself under control.

Hayden held the papers I’d given him up to me. “Uncle Theo, do you think we can work on this next weekend? My mom still needs to get all the materials.”

“I ordered them already.” I’d placed an online order for all the materials the night before. “It should arrive today sometime. But yes, the weekend will be perfect.”

Maggie frowned over at me. “You need to tell me how much I owe for the materials. I can make a transfer this morning.”

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her. She had to have known that I would not be expecting her to pay me back. Besides, I intended to have as much fun as Hayden building it. Not that I wanted her to know how much I would be participating.

“Or, you can let me and Hayden have fun at my expense.”

“Theo.”

“I got this, Mags.”

Her lips disappeared into her thin line but I didn’t care. I ordered the materials because it was what we needed.

I helped Jaycee onto one of the stools and she frowned up at me. “Are you the new daddy?”
