"About what?" Rob asked. "Tell me and maybe I can clear up some of your confusion."

"Who's the alpha here?"

"Him," every man in the room said as they pointed to Rob.

"Then who was that other guy?" Henry asked.

"It's a long story." Rob chuckled as he gestured toward the door. "Come on, I'll tell you on the way back to the mansion."

"Alpha Rob, can Luca and I join you a little later?" Randal asked. He wanted to make sure Luca's apartment was secure so something like this didn't happen again. He also wanted to make sure his father hadn't left anything behind that could hurt Luca.

Mostly, though, he wanted a few minutes alone with his mate.

"Yeah, I suppose I could spare you for a couple of hours, but no more than that. We still have some people to weed out of the clan."

"Thank you, sir."

"Rob, not sir."

Yeah, like that would ever happen.

Chapter Seventeen

"I want you to walk around and see if anything looks out of place," Randal said as soon as the door closed. "Don't touch anything. Just look."

"Why?" Luca asked. "Do you think they booby-trapped my apartment?"

"I wouldn't put it past them."

Good point.

Luca swallowed past the fear clogging his throat and started carefully walking through his apartment. He didn't notice too much out of place even if it was clear that people had been here for a few days.

There were take-out boxes on the table and in the kitchen, not to mention a sink full of dirty dishes. His bed was unmade, which gave him all sorts of creepy feelings. And there were several towels on the floor in the bathroom.

It didn't look like anything was missing.

"I'm not seeing anything, Randal."

"Okay, then we need to check the drawers, cabinets, and closet."

Luca was not in favor of this plan. "If they booby-trapped stuff, wouldn't that be a bad idea?"

"It's not smart, but we need to check unless you plan on us living somewhere else, and I kind of already promised my house to Rob's parents."

Another good point.

"Okay, but let's do it together." If they were going to die, he wanted them to die together.

They started at the closet next to the front door, searching it from top to bottom before moving on. Little bit by little bit, they searched every room. By the time they reached the bedroom, Luca was starting to think they wouldn't find anything.

"Found it!"

Luca looked up. "Found what?"

Randal held the wooden box in his hands up. "This was the box my father carried out of the house when he ordered Raymond to teach me a lesson."

"What's in it?"
