Randal frowned. "How so?"
"We actually know what he's up to this time, and we can stop him."
Luca swallowed past the lump in his throat. "You're going to stop him?"
"That's the plan." Rob sent him a smile in the mirror. "And we're going to get your nana back, Luca."
"How?" Luca really didn't see a way out of this mess. Either his nana died, or his alpha.
"I'm still working on that, but I think we need to get some help from Albert before we make a plan. He's a little more experienced being an alpha than I am. He might have some insight that I don't."
Luca's eyebrows lifted in surprise. "I thought you beat Alpha Kersey in a challenge."
"I did."
"And you're still going to ask him for help?" From Luca's understanding, that was not how things were done. Alphas did not ask other alphas for advice, especially not ones they had beaten in a challenge.
"Like I said," Rob replied, "he's been an alpha a lot longer than I have. I might not take his advice, but I'd like to hear it before I make a decision. I don't want to take the chance of making a mistake that could cost your nana her life."
Luca was all for that.
"Do you really think we can rescue her?"
"That's one of the reasons I want to talk to Albert," Rob said. "Ralph is his uncle and he was alpha here for decades. He's been dealing with this shit for a very long time. I'm hoping he might know where Ralph and Raymond are hiding."
"I can give you a list of places he might be," Randal said. "There are not a lot of them, and most of them were in Alpha King's territory, but there are a couple here in Silver Lake."
"I'll need a list of every place you can think of, Randal," the alpha said. "Once we get back to the house, I want you to point them out to me on a map. I want to see what we're working with here."
"Yes, sir."
Luca felt his heart take a perilous leap as a kernel of hope blossomed in his chest. Maybe they had a chance of rescuing his nana after all.
"Harvey, can you call Albert and the sheriff and ask them to meet us at the mansion? Don't tell them why just in case they are under surveillance as well. And I just want the two of them there, no one else."
"You think Ralph might have placed more listening devices?" Harvey asked.
"I think anything is possible, especially if this guy likes to work behind the scenes. In order to do that, he needs to know what is going on, and what better way to do that than to have devices in the sheriff's office and the alpha's house?"
"Do you think he has devices like that at the mansion?"
Rob shook his head. "No, but we'll search the place just to be sure."
This was all getting a little weird for Luca. Kidnappings, listening devices, and threats? It was insane. Things like this did not happen in Silver Lake, even if it was a town full of bear shifters.
"Harvey, you might also mention to Albert that he needs to put extra security on Mary and Jasper. I wouldn't put it past Ralph to try and fuck with them as well."
That thought sent a cold chill down Luca's spine. "We have to warn them."
"That's the plan," Harvey said as he pulled out his cell phone and dialed.
When he started talking to the person on the other end, Luca turned to look at Randal. "What do you think your father is up to?"
"He wants the clan," Randal whispered with such conviction that Luca knew he was right. "He's tried to get it before when Alpha Kersey was in charge and right after Rob won the challenge. I had hoped when he got banished that he'd move on and go look somewhere else, but it looks as if he still wants the Silver Lake Clan."
"But why threaten my nana?" That was the part Luca didn't get.
"I think he knows we're mates. I tried to keep it from him, but it's the only explanation."
