"Have you told anyone else?"
Luca's head snapped back. "Who would I tell?"
Randal could understand Luca's outrage. His uncle might understand about humans and accept them in the clan, and many of the clan members too, but there were those who did not accept them and believed that the clan should be shifters only. It was a sad fact, but it was true.
"We need to tell Alpha Rob, Luca. Even if it's simply to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else."
"We need to find my nana first."
"Yes, of course." Randal knew Luca was going to be a basket case until they found his nana, and he couldn't blame the guy. Luca and his nana were very close. "Let's go see if the others have found anything."
As they walked down the hallway, a phone rang. Luca hurried ahead to the kitchen and answered the phone that hung on the wall.
"Nana?"
A block of ice formed in Randal's stomach when Luca frowned.
"Who—" Luca swallowed hard. "Yes, I understand." There were tears in his eyes as he held the phone out. "It's for you."
Trepidation rolled through Randal like a tsunami as he took the phone and held it to his ear. "Hello?"
"Hello, Randal."
Randal closed his eyes for a moment when he recognized the voice at the other end of the line. "Father."
"You're going to do me a favor or your little friend will never see his nana again."
"Where is she?" Randal snapped.
"Watch how you talk to me, boy, or you won't get her back in the same condition."
Randal pressed his lips together to keep from yelling at his father. He inhaled deeply through his nose before speaking again. "What do you want?"
"I want you to kill your new alpha."
"Well? What did he say?" Luca asked after Randal hung up the phone. "Does he have my nana?"
Randal nodded. "He does."
Luca sucked in a shaky breath. "What does he want? If it's money, I have some, but—"
"He doesn't want money."
Luca frowned. "Then what does he want?"
Randal briefly considered not telling Luca. They were in a no win situation and Randal didn't have a clue how to fix it. "He wants me to kill Alpha Rob."
Chapter Eleven
"Oh, my god," Luca cried out as tears filled his eyes. "He's going to kill my nana."
Randal wouldn't kill Rob. Unlike his father, he wasn't that type of person, which meant Luca's nana was as good as dead. Ralph wouldn't hesitate to follow through with his threat. He'd probably do it just for the thrill.
"What are we going to do?" he whispered.
"We're going to go tell our alpha and he'll figure out what to do."
Randal had a lot more faith in the alpha than Luca did, but he hadn't grown up in a clan. He knew he didn't truly understand the bond Randal had to his clan or his alpha. He wasn't even quite sure why a shifter needed an alpha.
