"That's part of the idea," Luca replied. "You're shifters. It would be pretty bad if humans discovered what you were. Those that live in the Silver Lake Clan can hide from prying eyes, but in King Clan, they are forced to live in town."

"I thought everyone in the towns had to know about shifters."

Luca shook his head. "That's only Silver Lake."

Casey gasped. "How does that work?"

"Carefully."

Very, very carefully.

Chapter Six

Luca's pulse picked up when they pulled up in front of Randal's family home and he saw his truck parked out front. The house sat back from the road down a long driveway, surrounded by trees. It was a lot bigger than Luca had expected, and a bit fancy for this area. He was pretty sure an entire family of bears, plus all their cousins, could live in the large lodge style cabin.

He didn't like the fact that all the lights were out.

"Maybe he's sleeping," he murmured.

"What?" Casey asked.

"All of the lights are off," Luca said. "I expected Randal to be packing."

"Oh, yeah." Casey glanced back at the house. "Maybe he's sleeping like you said. It is almost ten o'clock."

"Yeah," Luca said, but he couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right.

"Casey, I want you and Erik to stay in the truck." Rob's stern tone of voice said he didn't want any arguments this time. "I'll have Dwayne stay with you. Do not get out of the truck for any reason."

"Yes, Rob." Casey had obviously heard the same stern tone.

Rob opened his door and climbed out. He stood by his door until the two men in the other truck joined him and then explained that Dwayne would be staying with Casey and Erik while the rest of them went inside to find Randal.

Rob tapped his temple. "If there's any problem, you know what to do."

Dwayne frowned. "Do you expect trouble?"

"Yes."

Luca really didn't like that reply.

Rob turned and gestured. "This is Luca Buchanan, Randal's mate and a new member of our clan. Luca, this is my older brother and beta, Harvey, and his mate and the gamma of our clan, Dwayne."

Luca shook both men's hands as they introduced themselves. He was a little more intimidated by Harvey than he was Dwayne, not because he was taller and more muscular, but there was an inherent aura of danger about the man that made Luca want to give the man a wide berth.

Man, the only bears Luca had met who weren't huge were Casey and Erik, making him wonder if it was a genetic thing. Did they have to be big to be a bear? Even Randal was several inches taller than him.

"Jeb, go around back," Rob said. "Harvey, Luca, you're with me."

Before Luca could take a step, Rob turned and pinned him with a hard gaze. "You will listen to me and my men."

"Yes, alpha," Luca answer, knowing this was one of those times when the title was important.

Rob nodded before turning and making his way up the stone walkway to the front door. Luca followed with Harvey behind him. When he got to the door, Rob knocked, waited, and then knocked again. When there was no answer, he grabbed the door handle and tried to open the door.

Luca frowned when he saw Rob turn the handle extra hard and then he heard a small clink sound before the door opened. "It was locked?"

Rob nodded even as he held his finger to his lips.
