I jumped up, raced over to the edge of the pool, and pointed the shotgun at the guy just as he broke the surface and shook the water out of his face. "Drop the gun!" I shouted when I saw the pistol in his hand. "I won't miss from this distance."

The guy dropped the pistol into the water.

"Climb out of the pool nice and slow." I kept a close eye on the guy's movements as he swam to the edge of the pool and then lifted himself up onto the edge before slowly climbing to his feet. "Sam, you got any zip ties?"

"Yep."

I couldn't see the guy's face due to the black mask he wore, but I could see the burning anger in his eyes.

"You're going to go away for a very long time," the man snapped. "They have a special place in hell for cop killers."

My mouth dropped open.

Even Sam paused and stared at the guy.

"Cop killers?"

Was he serious?

The guy nodded to the two prone bodies on the ground. "You killed them."

"They're not dead," I said. "I shot them with rubber bullets."

"That's still attempted murder of a police officer."

Wait.

I stepped over and grabbed the guy's mask and pulled it off his head. "Who are you?"

He looked vaguely familiar.

The man's eyes narrowed. "Officer Thomas Jenson."

"What in the hell are you doing breaking in here and shooting the place up?"

That was kind of SWAT's job.

The man pressed his lips together.

I shook my head as I tapped my comm unit. "Sal, I need you around by the pool. We got us a cop back here."

"What?" Sal's rage exploded across the line. "These guys are fucking cops?"

"It's looking that way," I replied.

"Then what in the hell are they doing blowing up my house and shooting at us?"

"You got me," I said. "This guy won't talk."

"Oh, yes, he will."

I chuckled as I looked at Officer Jenson. "You're fucked now. The boss man is coming."

Jenson stiffened, but that was the only sign that he was afraid.

He should be afraid.

Hell, he should be fucking terrified.
