"I'd like to stay here with Andrew, if that's all right." I felt safer with him even if he was coming down from being drugged. "I can keep an eye on him."
"That might not be a bad idea, Mr. Knox," Dr. Brashear said. "I don't suspect any side effects, but it wouldn't hurt to have someone keep an eye on Mr. Lancaster just in case. Until I get these samples back to my office and have a chance to look at them, we won't know what we are dealing with."
I liked having the doctor's support, but I didn't like the idea that Andrew might have some sort of side effects from whatever drug Brasov had given him. I hadn't had any, so I could only hope Andrew wouldn't either.
"We're going to head to bed," Knox said. "Mary will have breakfast ready for us at eight, so get a good night's sleep. We have a lot to do tomorrow."
"Like what?"
I was curious.
Sue me.
"We need to see what everyone was able to come up with before we showed up at the club tonight. I've had a few of my guys looking into Brasov and his business practices. No matter how smart he might be, no one is perfect. He's screwed up somewhere, and I want to know where."
"Doc here thinks we should follow the money," Andrew said. "He says that's what they always do in the movies."
I was impressed that Andrew hadn't shared the conversation we'd had with the doctor. I knew at some point he'd have to, but he was respecting the doctor's choice not to share right now while still giving Knox an avenue to pursue.
"Not a bad idea." Knox chuckled. "It's definitely something we can discuss in the morning."
Sounded like a good plan to me.
"Oh, I wanted to let you know we dropped your friend Donny off at the hospital. Ivan is going to go down and get him in the morning once he has a chance to sober up. He was pretty out of it."
"Thank you for letting me know," I said. "I always worry about him at the club. He doesn't seem to have the ability to know what is good for him."
Which was getting out of that place.
"We'll help him get on his feet." Knox smiled at me before turning to look at the doctor. "Can I walk you out, Dr. Brashear?"
"Yes, thank you." The doctor quickly picked up all of his equipment and put it into his bag before standing. "I'll call you as soon as I have some answers for you."
Knox nodded. "Thank you, Doctor."
I didn't say anything as the three men walked out of the room, closing the door behind them, but turned to look at Andrew once we were alone. "He's kind of intense, isn't he?"
Andrew chuckled. "Colton Knox is an amazing man, but I wouldn't become involved with him for love or money. Newton has to have nerves of steel."
I could see that.
"You don't mind me staying in here with you, do you?"
As thankful as I was to everyone who'd had a hand in freeing me, I didn't know these people. I knew Andrew. Sort of. A little bit.
I wanted to know more.
Andrew sent me a warm smile. "No, I don't mind."
I sighed in relief. "I know we've only known each other for a little while, but I—" I wasn't sure what else to say.
Andrew held out his hand. "Come lie down. We've both had a very eventful day, and I don't know about you, but I need some rest."
I laughed as I moved to stretch out next to Andrew.
"Get under the covers. You have to be freezing even with that shirt on."
I was.
