I almost groaned as I stretched out on the bed. It felt so good to be off my feet for a few minutes. There was less spinning.
The doctor sat down on the side of the bed and began taking my vitals. "Do you have pain anywhere?"
"I wasn't injured, Doc. I was drugged."
The doctor's eyebrows lifted. "You were drugged?"
"Yes, and we were kind of hoping you could figure out what I was given."
"They put it in his drink," Dalton said. "He only drank half the glass, but it was enough to make him really woozy."
"Did he pass out at any time?" the doctor asked as he shined a penlight in my eyes.
"I don't think he fully passed out, but he was definitely out of it. He's a lot more aware of his surroundings right now."
"Heis right here. You could ask me."
"Very well," the doctor replied. "What can you tell me about your symptoms?"
"I was very relaxed after I had my drink and..." Yep, I was going to say it. "Woozy."
Dalton chuckled even as he glanced away.
"When they drugged me, I—"
Dr. Brashear's head snapped up. "You were drugged, too?"
"Yeah, but it was a couple of days ago. I'm fine now."
"Who is drugging you? Do the authorities know about this?"
"It's a long story, Doc," I said quickly. "That's why we need you to try and figure out what they gave me. Hopefully, it will be another screw in the prison bars Knox is trying to build around them."
The doctor reached into his bag and came out with a syringe and clear tube. I grimaced when he stuck the needle into my arm and started drawing blood. I always hated have blood drawn. Granted, the doctor was pretty good at it, but I still hated it.
"Continue with what you were saying." The doctor glanced at Dalton again. "When you were drugged?"
"Oh, um, well, my friend Cam got to me within minutes and stuck his finger down my throat so I'd throw up. After that, he had me drink a bunch of water, and that seemed to help clear my head."
"You probably threw up most of it, but how's your throat? Any soreness?"
"No."
"Do you still feel thirsty?"
"Yeah, a little bit," Dalton replied.
"Stick to water or tea if you can help it. Avoid caffeinated beverages for the next couple of days, and whatever you do, no alcohol. It could halt whatever recovery you've made so far."
"I'm not much of a drinker anyway."
"If you're not much of a drinker," I asked, "how'd they get the drug to you?"
"They put it in my water and then held my head and forced me to drink it."
The doctor gasped. "Who are these people?"
"Like I said, it's a long story, but Knox, Burke, and Crosby are on it. The men who did this will not walk away. We just need you to handle the medical side of things."
