That did not exactly reassure Lex.

"What we can tell you is that you are safe. You'll continue moving down the road, one person at a time, until you find a place to stay until it's safe for you to reclaim your life." Gladys shot Teresa a fond look. "Or you may decide to build a new life."

"Yeah, I'm not real sure what I'm going to do. My entire life was ripped out from underneath me by some guy I don't even know. I'm afraid of what will happen if he finds me."

"Well, hopefully, he never will."

Considering all the people who had moved him around, and how far he was from Washington, D.C., she might be right. Lex doubted this lunatic would ever look for him in Ohio. Indiana? Where the hell was he?

"There's a blanket and a pillow in the back. Why don't you get some rest?" Teresa suggested. "We have another couple of hours before we reach your next destination."

Lex nodded as he reached back and grabbed the pillow and blanket. Getting some sleep sounded like a really good idea. He pressed the pillow between him and the door then leaned against it and pulled the blanket up over him.

Maybe he'd wake up and find himself in Oz.

* * * *

"Lex, wake up. We're here."

Lex yawned as he sat up. The rest, food, and pain pills had done him a world of good. He still felt bruised, but at least he no longer felt as if he was knocking on death's door. He folded the blanket and placed it and the pillow in the back then turned to see where he was.

"Holy shit." Lex slapped a hand over his mouth when both women glanced back at him. He hadn't meant to swear in front of them, but one look around where they were and he hadn't been able to help it. "I'm sorry. I just…I know where I am."

Teresa's dark eyebrows lifted. "You…know this place?"

"Yes?" He wasn't sure if he was supposed to admit that.

Teresa's eyes narrowed. "How do you know this place?"

"Hector and Will live here."

"And how do you know them?" she asked, her voice growing hard and cold.

"I used to work for Will's father."

"Senator Khor?"

Lex's jaw dropped. "You know the senator?"

"I met him when—"

"No, Teresa." Gladys grabbed Teresa's arm. "Don't say anything. Not until we know if he's telling the truth or not. It could jeopardize everything we've worked for, not to mention Hector and Will."

Teresa pressed her lips together.

Lex scooted forward. "My name is Lexter Mathis. Talk to Hector or Will. They can tell you who I am."

"Go on, Teresa. Go get Hector."

Teresa slid out of the car then walked up to the old farmhouse. She knocked on the door then walked inside when it opened. Lex didn't see anyone else, not even when the door had opened.

"I swear I'm telling the truth."

"I'm sorry if I can't just take your word for it," Gladys replied. "As we said, we stay safe by keeping this all a secret."

Lex's eyes rounded when the door opened and Hector stormed out of the house. He marched toward the car like a man on a mission. A very pissed off man on a mission. When he reached the car, he went right for the backseat where Lex was sitting and yanked open the door so hard, Lex thought the door might rip right off its hinges.

All the anger faded from his face. "Lex?"
