I was excellent in fact.

Granted, I probably would have been better if I'd been in my own home, but it had been decided we would stay with Hank and Ian while Abe recovered. They didn't want us left without protection when Abe wasn't at full strength. I still didn't understand why Hank and Ian hadn't just come and stayed at our house.

Our house. Now there was something I liked saying. McDermott and Judge had gone to Abe's place and packed it up while we were both recovering in the hospital, taking everything over to the brownstone. Once we were home, Abe could unpack and settle in, officially moving in with me.

I couldn't wait.

"So, I was thinking."

"Uh oh."

Abe narrowed his eyes. "No comments from the peanut gallery."

I chuckled.

"Do you want to take a walk with me?"

My eyebrows lifted. "Now?" Granted it was only early evening, but still. "Are you okay to go for a walk?"

"I'm fine, Danny. I promise. Besides, it's not a long walk."

"Wouldn't you rather stay here and snuggle?" I know I was enjoying it.

"I need to stretch my legs a little."

"Fiinne." I knew the inactivity had been driving Abe nuts. He wasn't used to doing nothing for days on end. I climbed off the couch then reached back and held out my hand. Abe took it and stood. "Will I need my jacket?"

"I don't think so. We're not going far."

I was growing a little confused by the cloak and dagger vibe I was getting. "Just where are we going?"

"You'll see." Abe led me out of the house then down to the sidewalk. He started walking down the street toward Cooper and Andrew's place.

"Are we going to visit Cooper and Andrew?"

"Nope." He walked right past their house, but stopped at the one next door.

"Oh, is this the house Andrew and Cooper were thinking of buying?"

There were no lights on inside, but from the empty-looking rooms I could see through the windows, the place seemed vacant.

"In a manner of speaking." Abe held tight to my hand as he led me up the walkway to the front steps and then to the door. He pulled a key out of his pocket and unlocked the door, pushing it open. "After you."

I frowned at the man as I walked past him. Once glance at the empty living room told me I had been right. The place was vacant. There wasn't a single stick of furniture in the place. Although it was a nice-looking place. It looked as if it had recently been remodeled. New hardwood floors, paint, trim.

"So, I was thinking…"

I lifted an eyebrow as I turned to look at Abe. Both went up when his eyes darted away from mine. I don't think I'd ever seen the confident man nervous before. I wasn't sure I liked it. "Abe?"

"Here." He held out the key. "This is your engagement present."

I took the key and just stared at it. "You bought me a house?"

"I bought us a house. I thought maybe you'd like living next door to our friends instead of halfway across the country. I had the place remodeled from top to bottom. New electrical. New plumbing. I even had the basement retrofitted as a bunker for you, although you'll have to put in the security system because I don't know how to do that."

Abe pointed to something above the door. "I had the entire house fitted with microscopic cameras that can't be spotted unless you know what you're looking for. They were built right in to the crown molding so they'd blend in."

Abe was right. I couldn't spot a single camera.
