Joey smiled again, and some of the tension left his body. "No, I'm sorry. I tend to get a little defensive sometimes when people question anything having to do with me and my husband. Not everyone who passes through the area is supportive of two men being together, much less being married. We've had more than one confrontation because of it."

"Everything okay here, babe?"

Holy shit, that was a big man.

Joey smiled up at the massive man as if the sun rose and set on him. "Everything is fine, Harvey. I was just giving these two gentlemen directions to Kapheri's."

Harvey smiled back down at Joey before leaning down and pressing a kiss to his lips. "Okay, but hurry it up. You're on in a few minutes."

Jayden had no idea what that meant, but he wasn't about to ask any questions. Not with a six-and-a-half-feet-tall bald man standing there. The tattoos going up his muscular arms all the way to his scalp were intimidating as hell.

Holy fuck, he was huge.

"Name’s Harvey." The man held out his hand, first to Wilson, then to Jayden. "Anything I can get you two?"

"Wilson." The man smiled as he shook Harvey's hand. "And I think our burgers will be here in a few minutes."

"Okay, good. Well, if you need anything, just ask."

Wilson nodded. "Thank you."

Jayden felt his stomach clench as he watched Joey and Harvey walk away. He glanced at Wilson, the knot in his stomach tightening as he realized he'd outed himself to the senator. He had no idea how the man would react.

Senator Khor had never been connected with any of the close-minded people who promoted anti-gay legislation, but that didn't mean those were his personal feelings on the subject. He could hate gays for all Jayden knew.

"Ever been to D.C.?"

Jayden blinked. "Washington, D.C.?"

Wilson nodded.

"Uh, no. I've always wanted to go, but I've never been able to afford it. Why?" It was a strange question to ask.

Wilson shrugged. "Just curious."

"There's several places back east I've dreamed about visiting, but…” Jayden shrugged his own shoulders. “I've pretty much spent my entire life just a couple of hours west of here, although I did go to San Francisco with my parents when I was twelve."

"Our food is here." Wilson nodded his head toward Dixie, who was carrying a tray of food toward them.

Jayden leaned back as Dixie set everything down on the table. His stomach growled. "This smells really good, Dixie. Thank you."

"If you need anything else, boys, just holler."

"Thanks, Dixie." As brass as she seemed, Jayden was starting to like the buxom blonde. She reminded him of his aunt, who'd raised him. Clara didn't take shit off of anyone, but she always had his back, even when his parents didn't.

Jayden grabbed one of the full beers and set it down in front of Wilson. He grabbed the other one for himself. "I got us another beer to go with our meal."

"I can have one more, and then that's it," Wilson replied. "I'm driving."

Jayden nodded. "Me, too."

He watched Wilson carefully as he began to eat his burger. The man hadn't said a single word about him being gay. Jayden couldn't figure out if Wilson had a problem with it or not. He wasn't running for the door or hurling curses at him, so that was a plus.

Jayden finished his burger and beer in record time. He raised his hand to signal Dixie. "Want another one?" he asked as he nodded toward Wilson's empty beer bottle. He knew the guy said only one more, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

Wilson stared at the bottle for a moment before shooting Jayden a dimpled smile. "Sure, why not, but just one more."
