Wilson grinned. "Here and there."

Jayden almost laughed at Wilson's preening, and that was exactly what the man was doing. Preening. He was proud of what he'd accomplished so far, but Jayden couldn't help but wonder if he fully understood exactly what he was doing.

"What's going to happen when all the fervor over the wedding dies down?"

"Who says it will?"

"Wilson."

"We'll deal with that when we get to it, Jayden. Right now, we need to put all of our energy into making everyone believe we are deeply in love and eagerly anticipating our wedding."

That seemed a little too easy. Jayden couldn't help worrying about how this was all going to play out. He didn't think it was going to be as easy as Wilson hoped it would. It certainly wasn't going to go as easy as he hoped it would. Life just didn't work that way for Jayden.

Hence, the extensive knowledge of how to flip the perfect burger.

"Which car is yours?" Wilson asked as he pulled into the dirt lot of the Rusty Nail.

Jasper pointed. "The blue two-door second from the end."

Wilson drove the car to the end of the parking lot and pulled it to a stop in the spot at the very end.

"Give me just a minute and then I'll be right behind you," Jayden said as he climbed out of the car. He rounded the car then walked past the one between them before heading to the driver's side.

His steps slowed when he reached the door and the broken window. He groaned when he looked inside. His overnight bag and his laptop bag were both missing. Considering all of his research on Wilson had been on that laptop, that could mean problems. Big problems. He had really good passwords on his computer, but nothing was foolproof.

He hurried back to Wilson's car.

"Someone broke into my car," he said when Wilson lowered the window. "Everything is gone, my clothes, my laptop, everything."

Wilson turned off his car and climbed out. "How'd they get in?"

"The window is shattered."

Wilson glanced toward the bar. "Do you think this place has video surveillance?"

Jayden shrugged. "We can ask."

"Come on." Wilson grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the bar.

They stopped once they stepped inside. The music was going, and people were dancing and drinking and having a good old time. It wasn't packed but close enough.

"Do you see Harvey or Joey?" Wilson asked.

"No. Let's go ask the bartender. She'll know where they are."

Jayden spotted trouble before he had taken more than a couple of steps. He squeezed Wilson's hand as he pulled him to a stop. "That's Marv, my boss."

"Where?" Wilson's head flipped back and forth as he looked out over the crowd.

"That balding man sitting at a table on the right side of the stage. The brown-haired man sitting with him is Ricky."

"Do you think they are the ones who broke into your car?"

Jayden hadn't even considered it until Wilson mentioned it, but… "Yeah, that's something Ricky would do, and Marv would stand behind him holding the flashlight."

"We should call the sheriff."

"And tell him what?" Jayden asked. "We have no proof they broke into my car. Without proof…" Jayden shrugged.
