Jayden's heart clenched. He wasn't sure if it was heartache or sadness or both. "You've been hanging out with the wrong people."
"Oh, and you've been hanging out with the right people?"
"No." Sadly, he hadn't. "But if you spend enough time in Cade Creek, you'll see why people should get married." Jayden had only spent a few days here, but the magic of the place had been apparent on the first day.
"Well, we'll both be spending a lot of time here. I'm buying us a house in Cade Creek."
Jayden's jaw dropped. "Just how long do you think this little charade has to go on?"
"Just until the rabid dogs find something else to sink their teeth into."
Peachy.
That could be a very long time.
Jayden frowned as he crossed his arms. "And just how do you propose we go about making this the news story of the century?"
Wilson frowned. "I'm not sure."
Peachy.
"We have to do something to get on everybody's radar," Wilson continued. "Something that will wow everyone enough that they won't even go looking for more to the story."
"You want to purposely get everyone's attention?" Jayden was pretty sure a US senator marrying a man would accomplish that.
"We need to put on a big show," Wilson said. "A big wedding and reception. We need to find a minister to marry us, get the marriage certificate—"
"Do you actually need one?" Jayden asked. "Can't we just pretend to get married?"
"No, that would never work. You're a reporter. You know someone is bound to check county records."
Unfortunately, Wilson was right. Any reporter with a brain cell would check to make sure the marriage was legitimate. Mostly because if they had proof it wasn't, that would be an even bigger story.
"I think I might be able to help you with that," Joey said as he stepped back into the room. "Have you met Brody?"
Jayden started racing through the names of the people he'd met in Cade Creek, but Brody didn't sound familiar. "I can't say that I have."
"Benjamin Brody is the minister of Cade Creek Community Church."
"The guy with the tattoos who looks like a biker?" Wilson asked.
Tattoos? Biker?
Joey grinned. "That's him."
Wilson shook his head. "I haven't met him, but Lachlan Blaecleah told me about him."
"Well, if you want a minister to marry you, he's your man."
"Do you think he'd do it on such short notice?" Wilson asked.
Joey shrugged. "Anything is possible."
Jayden rolled his eyes. Ain't that the truth.
"Is there a wedding planner in town?" Wilson grabbed a piece of paper and a pen off the desk and started writing. "If we're going to pull this off in just a couple of days, we're going to need help."
"You want to plan a big elaborate wedding in just a couple of days?" Joey asked.
