"Homemade food?"
Dan nodded.
"I'll be there."
"Good." Dan smiled. "Say, around seven?"
"Sounds good." Hector didn't say anything else. He just turned and walked away.
Dan chuckled lightly as he shook his head. Hector was a weird one. Even in the weeks he'd lived here, he still hadn't gotten a bead on the man. Hector didn't say much, kept to himself most of the time, and he never seemed to smile. Dan didn't know why that was, but he'd bet anything there was a story there.
When someone knocked on the door, Dan carefully slid out from under Terry. He slid a pillow under his head then grabbed a blanket off the back of the couch and covered him before walking to the front door.
Somehow, he wasn't surprised to see a man in a business suit standing on his doorstep. The sight of Elijah James standing next to the guy was a surprise, though.
"Hey, Elijah."
"Hey, Dan, is Terry here?" Elijah asked.
"Yeah, he's napping on the couch. He had a rough few hours."
Elijah winced. "I suspect that's why we're here. We need to speak to him."
"Oh, um." Dan glanced over his shoulder to the living room. "Give me just a moment to go wake him up, and then I'll let you in."
Elijah smiled. "Thank you."
Dan shut the door then hurried into the living room to wake Terry up. He really hated to do it, but he knew he didn't really have a choice. Besides, Terry had been expecting someone to show up. Probably just not Elijah James.
Dan gave Terry's shoulder a little shake. "Terry, baby, you need to wake up."
Terry's eyelashes flickered before lifting. A smile spread across his face. Dan felt like a monster because he knew that smile wasn't going to be there in a moment.
"Baby, Elijah James and some guys in a suit are here to talk to you."
Yep, there went the smile.
"What time is it?" Terry asked as he sat up.
Dan glanced at his watch. "It's just a little after ten."
"Wow." Terry rubbed his hands over his face. "I guess I was more tired than I thought."
"I think you probably needed it." He probably needed a few more hours. It was too bad he wasn't going to get them. "Go wash your face while I let our company in."
"Yeah." Terry pushed himself to his feet.
When Terry started to walk past him, Dan grabbed him and pulled him close. "It'll be okay, baby."
Terry sighed. "You can't promise that."
"No, I can't." Dan wasn't going to lie to him. "The only thing I can promise is that I will stand with you."
He was surprised by the smile Terry gave him.
"That just might be enough," Terry whispered before pressing a quick kiss to his lips then pulling free and heading down the hallway to the bathroom.
Dan stood there for a moment as he tried to get his raging libido under control then walked to the door to let their guests in. He held the door open wide and waved his hand toward the living room. "Come on in, gentlemen."
