My jaw dropped. "Poisoning?"

Jonny shrugged. "It could be an overdose. It is a bar."

"Yeah, but Harvey would shoot someone before he allowed them to do drugs in his bar."

"True," Jonny replied before lifting the mic to his mouth once again. "10-4, dispatch. We're 10-17 to the Rusty Nail Bar and Grill."

Terry put the ambulance into motion and got underway. It was a five-mile drive to the bar, which usually wouldn't be a problem, but the road out to the Rusty Nail could be rough at times. There seemed to be a lot more traffic headed out that way lately than in the past.

"Okay," Terry said as they drove out of the ambulance bay, "here we go."

Before they could even get out of the driveway, the alarm sounded again. This time, it was the fire alarm. Terry glanced in his rearview mirror. He could see firefighters scrambling to get in the fire engine. Chief Helmond was climbing into his red incident command vehicle, which meant it was most likely a bigger fire.

It was gearing up to be a stellar day.

Terry was dragging ass by the time he pulled back into the ambulance bay. It felt as if they had received one call right after another. It had been nonstop all day long. Luckily, they hadn't lost anyone. Although there had been a couple of close calls.

The overdose at the Rusty Nail Bar and Grill came readily to mind. Terry never understood idiots who put drugs into their bodies. There were so many other ways to have a little fun.

With any luck, he'd have a little fun when he got home.

Since they had basically been on the run the entire shift, cleaning up the ambulance and restocking, it took a little longer than Terry would have liked. Keeping the ambulance ready to go at any second was part of the job. It didn't get overtime.

Terry cleaned out the inside of the ambulance while Jonny restocked it. It seemed as if they were always restocking the damn rig. Again, it was part of the job. Some days were better than others.

Considering the field he worked in, Terry was actually kind of surprised they didn't get more emergency calls. He knew it was due to the fact that Cade Creek was a small town. He shuddered to think of what it would be like to work in the big city. That had to be insane.

By the time they were done getting the ambulance ready for the next day, Terry just wanted to go home, shower, and fall face-first into bed. He was so tired, he wasn't even thinking about sex anymore.

Well, maybe something that didn't take too much effort. He wasn't stupid enough to say no if Dan offered. He just didn't think he had the energy to do a marathon session.

"I'm headed out." Terry waved to Jonny, who was working on the last of the paperwork. "I'll see you in a couple of days."

He didn't have another shift for forty-eight hours. He was so excited about having two days off, there was a bounce to his step as he walked out to his truck. He knew Dan had to work, but they could still spend their evenings together. Terry might even cook.

The drive home was relatively easy. It was late enough at night that there were hardly any cars on the road. Terry felt an unusual smile cross his lips when he pulled into the drive next to Dan's truck. Knowing he was coming home to someone special instead of a roommate made seeing that truck just a little more exciting.

Terry grabbed his work bag and climbed out of his truck. There weren't a lot of lights on, but it was rather late. He doubted Dan was still up, but he could hope. He let himself into the house then relocked the door. The silence that hung in the air told him it was doubtful anyone was up.

Terry's heart sank until he got upstairs to his bedroom and found a beautiful, naked man stretched out on his bed, and Terry could tell that Dan was naked. One leg was thrown out, and the blankets were low on his back. The curve of one butt cheek was visible.

Hot damn.

Terry dropped his bag next to the bedroom door then hurried into the bathroom to strip off his work clothes. He jumped in the shower and did a quick scrub down. He wanted to get back to the bedroom and the naked man in his bed just as fast as he could.

Dan was still lying there on his stomach by the time Terry got back to the bedroom. Terry walked to the side of the bed and slid under the covers. He scooted close, but not too close. Even though Dan was in his bed, he didn't know what sort of reception he would receive. It wasn't like they had talked this stuff out.

Still, finding Dan in his bed had to mean something.

Right?

"How was work?"

Terry smiled when Dan turned his head. "Busy. We were pretty much on the go all day long."

"So, I guess you need your rest then, huh?"
