That was the best—and simplest—description of the bond I had ever heard.

“So.” I smiled as I glanced at my new pride members. “We’re a pride.”

“Family,” Bob interjected. “You said family.”

I smiled and nodded to the man. “Family.”

“You know what these means, don’t you?”

I tilted my head curiously. “What?”

“Mustachio is now the family cat.”

I chuckled when everyone groaned. “I’ve always wanted a cat.”

“You have a cat,” Stone whispered into my ear. “Me.”

I glanced up at the man. “Are you going to purr for me?”

Stone winked. “I’ll do anything you want.”

I liked that answer.

“So,” Bob said, breaking the moment between me and Stone, “who’s the alpha?”

I swallowed hard when every eye in the room slowly panned to me.

Oh shit.

I started shaking my head. “I’m not as strong as you guys. I can’t be the alpha.”

There was no way. “You said we’d feel it in our gut, Sinclair,” Samson said. “And my gut is telling me it’s you.”

I continued to shake my head. “I’m not alpha material.”

Hell, I was in a wheelchair.

“Well,” Stryker said, “obviously you are or we wouldn’t feel it.”

“No, that’s just not possible. I mean, come on. I’m not even a panther.”

Seemed perfectly logical to me. I wasn’t a panther shifter. Therefore, panthers wouldn’t follow me.

“I’m afraid the deck is stacked against you, love,” Stone murmured. “You’re the alpha.”

“And you’re insane!”

I caught my breath when Stone chuckled. I was still in awe of this new man in my life, the happy, laid back one. I was used to the emotionless man, the stone-cold killer. I was not used to the lover.

“I’m hungry,” Bob said. “Is anyone else hungry?”

Samson raised a hand. “I could eat.”

“Me, too,” Stryker said.

Bob glanced toward me and Stone. “What about you two? Are you hungry?”

“Stone doesn’t want me eating anything not prepared by one of us until we know if I was poisoned or not.”
