“Oh yeah, that would be fine.” As Marcus, my bodyguard, walked into the room, I remembered that Vinnie had his own bodyguards. “It’s okay for his bodyguards to come up with him, too.”
“Very good, sir. I’ll let them right up.”
I hung up the phone and set it down before smiling at Marcus. I still wasn’t all that comfortable having a bodyguard. I doubted I ever would be, but it made Sal and my father happy, so I went with it.
“My friend Vinnie is on his way up.”
“So I heard,” Marcus replied.
“He’ll probably have a couple of armed guards with him.”
Marcus raised one eyebrow. “Armed guards?”
“It’s VincentCastellano. They kind of go where he goes.”
“TheVincentCastellano as in the Castellano crime family?”
My smile broadened. “That would be him.”
“And he’s a friend?”
I shrugged. What could I say? I was friends with a mobster.
“Does Mr. Delvecchio know about this?”
I rolled my eyes before shouting out, “Sal!”
A moment later, my husband stepped out of the office. “What’s wrong?”
“Jenson called from downstairs,” I replied. “Vinnie is on his way up.”
“Oh?” Sal walked farther into the room. “Was he coming over for something specific?”
“I don’t know, but Marcus here”—I nodded toward my bodyguard—“is concerned that I have a meeting with the head of theCastellano crime family.”
Sal chuckled as he slapped Marcus on the back. “Then you’re really going to shit when you learn that we’re also friends with the Gambino family.”
Marcus’s eyes rounded. “Both of them?”
I grinned when Sal nodded.
“How?”
“You remember my friend Eddie?” I asked.
Marcus nodded.
“His real name is Eddie Gambino. He’s Carlos Gambino’s son and Vinnie Castellano’s nephew.”
Eyes still wide, Marcus pulled his hand down his face. “Holy hell, no wonder you hired me.”
“The families aren’t the problem.” Sal’s eyes settled on me. “It’s what happens when Lany, Eddie, and Lyn get together. I used to think they were the three musketeers. Now, I know they are three of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.”
“Who’s number four?” Marcus asked.
“I don’t know yet, but I expect him to show up any day now.”
I narrowed my eyes. “Keep it up, fuzz ball, and you’ll be sleeping alone tonight.”
