“Okay, Lyn’s running the GPS location on your phone,” Clarke said. “We should have you located in a couple of seconds.”

I breathed a little easier as I glanced out the window, watching the street roll by. “That would be good because I really have no idea what I’m looking at.”

“Can you tell me how many people we’re dealing with right now?”

“It’s just the one night as far as I know. I’ll have to talk to someone to see if this thing goes any longer than that.”

“Okay, just one person right now?”

“Hey, man, you’re in the driver’s seat. If that’s what you want to do, go for it.”

“The driver?” Clarke asked. “The driver is doing this?”

“As far as I can tell, but you know how these things go. There are always other people trying to get a piece of the pie.”

“Lyn says you’re headed down Fifth Street, going west away from the city center. Does that sound about right?”

“Yeah, that sounds about right.”

I couldn’t see any street signs, but I recognized the road we were on. In another few blocks, we would be leaving the bigger buildings behind and head into the industrial district. Considering the docks were supposed to be controlled by the mob, I should have felt better about that.

I chose my words carefully. I could see the driver giving me a lot of attention. “So, I should be home pretty soon. I was thinking we could all get together. Vinnie would like to meet you.”

“Oh, I’m sure he would.” Clarke’s voice dripped with sarcasm.

“Yeah, sure, you’re more than welcome to bring any friends you want.”

“Don’t worry, I’ve already sent out word to the rest of the team and they’re gearing up now. Until I know more about what is going on, I’m keeping this strictly in-house.”

“That’s probably a good idea. You never know who might try to crash the party.”

“Oh, we’re going to crash it all right. Brodsky and Wu should be here in a few minutes, and then we are headed in your direction.”

“That would be great. I know I’d love to see you and some of the guys.” I glanced to my right. “I’m sure Vinnie would, too.”

“Do you think this has anything to do with the earlier attacks?”

It was a good question.

“No doubt in my mind.”

I glanced up when the car slowed. We were approaching some warehouses. They weren’t the worst buildings in the neighborhood, but they weren’t the best either. I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not.

When we pulled down a road between two of the warehouses, I knew our time had come to an end. Whatever was going to happen, was going to happen now.

“Hey, look, Gino, I need to go. We’re pulling over for some reason. Meet us at the apartment, and I’ll introduce you to Vinnie.”

“Lyn says he has you pulling into the warehouse district off pier nine.”

“Sounds about right.”

“Our ETA is ten minutes out.”

“Great.” My grin was not fake. Whoever was after us had no idea the shit storm headed their way. My men didn’t fool around, especially when one of their own was in danger. “I can’t wait to see you.”

I hung up and then made sure I deleted my history log. The driver had been pretty interested in my conversation. I didn’t want him to check it later and discover I hadn’t called Gino. Once I was sure everything was all cleaned up, I slid my phone into my pocket.

“Gino said he’d meet up with us just as soon as he could get some friends together.” I chuckled when Vinnie raised an eyebrow at me. “I guess we’re having a party.”
