“Is Vinnie gay? Because that would be totally freaky.”
Like, mega freaky.
“I cannot confirm or deny thatVinnie Castellano is gay, but he was the one who asked me if I knew of any cute young gay men looking for a sugar daddy.”
I couldn’t contain my gasp.
Sal just chuckled, almost as if he had been expecting it.
“Sal!” I growled.
“Lany!”
Oh, now I knew he was just fooling with me. Vinnie might indeed be gay, and Sal might have even set Vinnie up on a date with Gino, but Sal was still fooling with me.
And I suddenly understood why.
I grabbed my blanket off the back of the couch and pulled it over me before leaning back and snuggling down under it. It was still cold outside, even more so since Sal wasn’t there to keep me warm.
“So, what?” I asked. “You’re playing cupid now?”
“Well, if Vinnie does what he promised and gets out of the family business, then yes. I’ll set him up on a date with Gino. If not…”
“Wow,” I mused.
A gay mobster?
Was that even possible?
“Sal, Gino’s pretty high maintenance. Are you sure you want to do that to Vinnie?”
“I warned him,” Sal replied. “He said he was still interested.”
Moron.
“He was really interested after I showed him a picture from Christmas when Gino and Angelo came to dinner.”
Okay, I had to admit—high maintenance aside—Gino was kind of cute, in a bouncy twink sort of way. He was maybe an inch taller than me.
I was cuter.
He did have that whole hot Italian thing going for him, though. I was pretty sure that was in the blood, too. I much preferred the hotter, buffer version of the Delvecchio bloodline.
“How can he be gay?”
“How can you be gay?” Sal countered.
“Easily.” I grinned, even though Sal couldn’t see me do it. “I wear this little sheer shirt where you can see my nipples and—”
Sal groaned. “You’re killing me, baby.”
“No, I’m giving you a reason to come home as soon as you can.”
“I’ll be home as soon as I turn the scene over to the detectives.”
“That long?” I knew how long it took to hand a crime scene over to the investigating officers. We were talking like forever here.
“This whole thing is pretty messed up, Lany. I don’t know if they were after me, Vinnie, or just trying to make a point. Isabella just got caught in the crossfire.”
