I slapped my hands over my ears. “Lalalala.”

Eddie chuckled.

I grinned as I lowered my hands to my lap. My point had been made. I didn’t need to rub it in. I wasn’t mean like that.

Unless you pissed me off.

I could be mean if you pissed me off.

I wasn’t pissed off, so I smiled at Eddie before staring longingly at the man’s food tray. “Can we get more Jell-O?”

Eddie’s eyebrows went up. “You like that crap?”

I frowned in confusion. “Who doesn’t like Jell-O?”

That was like…un-American or something.

I glanced around when I heard the door open. I expected a nurse so I was surprised when Eddie’s uncle walked in, flanked by two very large no-neck goons. Granted, they were all dressed in very nice Armani suits, but I couldn’t help but wonder if it was a prerequisite of being a bodyguard to have more muscles than brains.

“Edward.”

“Uncle.”

The man’s eyes roamed over Eddie as if cataloging his injuries before moving to me. “Lancaster.”

Grrr.

“Lany,” I corrected as I nodded politely at the man. You weren’t rude to an alleged mafia boss if you wanted to keep your head attached to your shoulders, and I did. “Mr. Castellano.”

I frowned when the man dismissed me as if I hadn’t spoken.

I hated it when people did that.

“What happened?” the man asked.

“Oh, it’s nothing really,” Eddie said. He would have been more believable if there hadn’t been pure panic in his voice.

My snicker didn’t help.

“Why are you here?” Eddie asked.

I knew he hadn’t called his uncle, so I was curious, as well.

“Isabella had her baby,” Vinnie replied. “I came up to see her.”

“Oh.” Eddie smiled. “That’s nice. Boy or girl?”

“Twin girls, actually.”

Eddie’s eyes rounded. “She was pregnant with twins?”

My jaw dropped when Vinnie cracked a smile. I didn’t know he had it in him.

“Yes.”

“Nice,” Eddie replied before glancing at me. “Isabella is one of my uncle’s bodyguards. She’s gorgeous and looks nothing like a bodyguard. No one ever thinks it’s weird that she goes everywhere with my uncle.”

“Oh.” I smiled as I glanced at Vinnie. “And you came up to see her?”
