“I won’t ever care.”

I shake my head. “But what about them?” I fling my hands out to the others. In the direction Hazard and Angel ran off in, looking so broken and torn, to Khaos so exhausted, to Wrath, who is still heaving with anger. “Not one of you can decide for all of you. It’s all or none. Now, I’m going inside to get ready to meet Brett…Brenton…no, Brian.”

I sit at the dinner table and smile at my date. He’s nice. If you ignore the fact that he stinks of another woman.

He’s got a whole sob story, too. His ex has done a number on him; she’s crazy. He’s going to be divorced soon, but it’s been two years of drawn-out hell. She’s ruining his life. He, too, likes to live alone, and he’s just looking for a new start. Everything I think I’m supposed to want to hear.

He works long hours, but he assures me that if he wants to make time, he will make time.

It’s just…I’m surprised you can’t see her pussy juices shining on his face, he stinks so much. Did he even wash or come straight here?

“Do you want to go for a drive?”

Did I want to go for a drive with him? Not particularly. I want to go home to my wolves. Time is crawling, but I think I’ve been here long enough. I pull out my phone and scroll through social media until I find his name. I click twice, follow the links, and find his beautiful fiancée. All in under five minutes.

“Does she know you’re here? She’s really beautiful. And a teacher.”

He looks down at my phone, and his face pales. He swallows hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing while his hands clench on the table.

I stand up and walk out of the restaurant.

He grabs my arm and swings me around to face him. “Don’t fucking say anything?”

I sneer at him and pull my arm free. “You suck at this whole cheating thing, so maybe if you’re this bad at it, you should consider not doing it.”

“It will kill her to find out.”

“No, it won’t. It will just be awful for a while until she finds someone with a goddamn shred of respect for her and themselves.”

He lifts his hand, but he’s ripped back away from me faster than I can blink.

Khaos glances over his shoulder, his burning eyes finding me. “You okay?”

“I’m fine.”

He leans forward and growls. The sound terrifies the idiot he has pinned to the wall, but it does horrible, awful, amazing things to me.

That sound makes me want to roll naked in the grass and do whatever I can to make it happen again.

I miss the next part because I’m stuck in the fantasies and rubbing my thighs together. But Khaos returns to my side and takes my elbow gently.

“Ready to go home?”

“Uh-huh.”

He stops, and I turn to face him. “Stop…doing that.”

“Doing what?” I murmur quietly.

“Purring.”

His words cut the sound off as I realise what I’m doing. Shit.

We climb into my truck and drive out of the town, but, halfway, Khaos slams on the brakes.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I’m just tired, I guess. People are exhaustingly awful lately.”
